German clubs in 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, Europa League & Conference League: fixtures, results and draws

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen remain in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League following the end of the league phase, with Eintracht Frankfurt eliminated, while VfB Stuttgart and Freiburg continue to fly the flag in the Europa League. Mainz are through to the last 16 in the Conference League on their return to Europe.

UEFA Champions League

The top four in the 2024/25 Bundesliga earned a direct place in the league phase of this season’s Champions League. BayernLeverkusen and Dortmund have become regulars in Europe’s top continental competition, while Frankfurt’s third-place finish saw them qualify for the Champions League via their league position for the first time ever.

This is the second season of the new-format competition with a 36-team league phase in which each team plays eight different opponents, four at home and four away. The draw was made on Thursday, 28 August in Monaco.

Knockout rounds

While Bayern progressed straight through to the last 16, Leverkusen and Dortmund are required to go through the play-off round

Leverkusen will play Olympiacos again, while Dortmund have been paired with Atalanta. The Werkself will play at home in the second leg, while BVB will kick off at home.

The first leg will the be played on 17/18 February, while the second will take place on 24/25 February.

Kasper Hjulmand's men confirmed their place in the play-off round with a comfortable victory over Villarreal. Malik Tillman's brace put Leverkusen in control of the clash, before Alejandro Grimaldo scored his fourth goal of the tournament so far to round off the scoring.

UEFA Europa League

Freiburg came agonisingly close to a maiden Champions League qualification but fell short on the final day to finish fifth. They therefore compete in the Europa League alongside DFB Cup winners Stuttgart.

The Europa League again follows the same format as the Champions League. The draw was made in Monaco on Friday, 29 August.

Knockout rounds

Freiburg finished seventh with a record of five wins, two draws and a defeat, meaning they advance straight to the round of 16 and will face the winner of either Brann vs. Bologna or Dinamo Zagreb vs. Genk.

Stuttgart finished 11th and will now take on Celtic over two legs in the knockout play-off. The second leg will be at the MHP Arena. Porto or Braga await in the last 16.

The first leg will the be played on 19 February, while the second will take place on 26 February.

By finishing sixth in the Bundesliga, Mainz earned a spot in the play-off round of qualifying for the Conference League. They beat Rosenborg of Norway 5-3 over two legs to reach the league phase for 2025/26, taking seventh place to ensure a spot in the round of 16 and bypass the knockout play-offs.

The Conference League also consists of 36 teams, except teams only play six games instead of eight.

The 05ers won four, drew one and lost one of their matches to finish on 13 points. As a result, they will now play the winner of one of the play-off ties between either Crystal Palace and Lausanne or Sigma Olomouc and Zrinjski Mostar in the round of 16. The draw to determine the knockout pairings was made on 16 January, with the play-offs played in late February. The round of 16 begins in March.
