Bayern Munich extended their winning streak to 16 across all competitions after Luis Díaz gave his side a two-goal lead before being sent off as Vincent Kompany's men enjoyed a statement 2-1 win against European champions Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League.
PSG 1-2 Bayern Munich
Goals: 0-1 Díaz 4' (assist: Olise), 0-2 Díaz 32', 1-2 Neves 74' (assist: Lee)
Sent off: Díaz 45+3'
Bayern couldn’t have asked for a better start against the European champions when Díaz opened the scoring with four minutes on the clock as they looked to overcome their toughest task yet.

After soaking up early pressure from PSG, the Colombian marked his return to the starting line-up with a composed finish past Lucas Chevalier after Michael Olise was denied. Rested against Bayer Leverkusen, Dayot Upamecano - who won the ball back in midfield - was one of six changes made by Vincent Kompany.
PSG thought they had equalised through former Borussia Dortmund attacker Ousmane Dembélé when he bundled Fabián Ruiz’s cross over the line, but VAR judged the Frenchman to have strayed offside.
Manuel Neuer was then called into action to deny Bradley Barcola before Serge Gnabry had a chance to double Bayern’s lead, but his low-driven shot bounced off of both posts.

Bayern were then rewarded for their high press less than a minute later as Díaz capitalised on Marquinhos dwelling on the ball, winning the ball from the Brazilian before hammering home to double Bayern’s lead.
Germany’s record champions continued to flood forward and thought they had a third when Josip Stanišić converted a pass from Harry Kane, but he was in an offside position. They were almost rewarded when Joshua Kimmich - who made his 100th Champions League appearance - dragged his effort just wide moments later.
Although in a comfortable lead, Bayern’s task was made much more difficult when Díaz was dismissed in stoppage time at the end of the first-half for a challenge on Achraf Hakimi, which saw the Colombian’s initial yellow card overturned into a red after the referee was called to the monitor.

João Neves brought PSG to within one. - Stuart Franklin
A man down, it was a very different Bayern that started the second half, with this one happy to sit in a low block. In a five-minute spell, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha and Lee Kang-in all forced Neuer into making saves, but none really troubled the Bayern stopper.
PSG’s persistence was then rewarded when João Neves, who had been on the pitch for less than 10 minutes, converted Lee’s cross. That goal gave the hosts confidence, with Vitinha and Warren Zaïre-Emery forcing Neuer into two superb saves, which forced Kompany’s hand with the introduction of Minjae Kim and a switch to a back five.
It was one-way traffic in the closing stages with Neves coming close with a header as the hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Bayern showed resilience to overcome a PSG storm to pick up an impressive three points in Paris.

Jonathan Tah
"It’s not typical for us to have to defend so deep, but we showed today we can do it, that we’re there for each other and ready. It really wasn’t easy, but the most important thing was that we stuck together as a team, that we believed that we could get through it.”

Manuel Neuer
“It was obviously a completely different game in the second half. We saw in the first who the better team was. It’s then not easy with 10 men, and the second half was a real fight."

Vincent Kompany on the win
"The first half was really pleasing. In the second half, we had to play differently. We know that the Champions League isn’t decided yet, but today was a really important three points for us.”

Full-time: PSG 1-2 Bayern
Bayern show their Champions League credentials as they hold out for the narrow win despite playing the second half with 10 men. Neves pulled one back for the title holders, but PSG struggled to get going against a well-disciplined Bayern defence. The win sees Bayern move top of the league phase on goals scored.

Full-time
Neuer makes a big claim
Another dangerous cross from Lee is flicked goalwards, but Laimer is there to clear the ball into the sky. Neuer gets up and claims the loose ball to waste a few more precious seconds.
Added time
Five minutes left to play. Can Bayern hold out?
Lee fires wide
The South Korean dips inside once more and misses the far post with his shot by the smallest of margins.
Kvaratskhelia whips in a dangerous cross
The Georgian cuts inside and sends in a cross/shot that almost deflects off Upamecano directly before Neuer, but luckily for the Bayern captain, the Frenchman doesn't get a touch, and the keeper can collect.
Another Vitinha effort
Vitinha lets fly from the edge of the box for what could be the tenth time this evening, and once more, Neuer is there.

Can Bayern hang on?
It is wave after wave of PSG pressure now. The Bayern defence is holding relatively firm, but gaps are appearing more regularly.

Inches wide
A short corner is played to Lee, who once again finds Neves in the box, but this time his headed effort drops just centimetres wide of the post.
Ramos shoots
The striker gets a little space to shoot, but he can't hit the target.
Big chance
Lee finds a great run from Zaïre-Emery in the box, but his dinked effort is well kept out by Neuer.
Vitinha lets loose
The Portuguese has had a lot of shooting opportunities in the second half, but again, Neuer is equal to the long-range effort.

PSG have one back
PSG press high and win the ball back well up the pitch. The ball is then recycled out to the right, where Lee is free to cross to Neves, who tucks home a volley from close range.

Too easy
Lee dips inside and shoots, but once more the effort is a comfortable save for Neuer.

Neuer with little to do
Despite being down to 10 men, Neuer has not had an awful lot to do so far.

Dangerous
Bayern remain a threat on the break as PSG continue to leave themselves open at the back. Stanišić does superbly to get down the left-hand side before feeding Olise, but the Frenchman's shot is comfortable for Chevalier.
Good strike
Vitinha lets fly from the edge of the box, but Neuer is equal to the effort. Kvaratskhelia then fires a second effort over the bar.
Good opening
Vitinha slides the ball through to Kvaratskhelia in the box. The Georgian has the space to shoot, but his effort is easy for Neuer.
Good run
Olise picks up the ball on the wide right and drives forward, but his legs start to go as he reaches the edge of the box, and the shot drifts wide.
No way through
Bayern have got everyone behind the ball now and are looking for counters or opportunities to slow the game down. PSG have got to move the ball faster if they are going to create openings. The Bayern defensive line is coping at the moment.

A very different game
As expected, the opening 10 minutes of the second half have been very different to the first half. PSG are now controlling proceedings and looking to create openings. Pictured is the moment that changed the shape of this game so drastically as Díaz earned himself a red card.
© THOMAS SAMSON
Good position goes to waste
Mayulu gets to the byline and tries to cross, but he can only find the grateful gloves of Neuer.
Chance
Mendes whips in a low cross that finds Barcola, but he swings and misses from a good possession. That was a chance.
Almost
Kvaratskhelia beats Kane to a corner, but heads over the bar.
Good start
PSG get forward immediately with Mendes shooting early on after good football, but the effort is blocked.
Back underway
The second half is underway as Bischof replaces Gnabry in the Bayern midfield.

Half-time: PSG 0-2 Bayern
Bayern have been superb, and ironically, Díaz was the best player on the pitch, but he won't be coming back out for the second half after that horrible challenge on Hakimi. PSG will have to come out swinging in the second half now, but they will be doing so without Hakimi and Dembélé, who are both off injured.

Half-time
Kane forces a save
Good football from Bayern again sees Kane get in behind, but his shot is well saved by Chevalier.
Hakimi off injured
The Moroccan can't continue after that challenge and is replaced by Mayulu.

And he's off!
Bayern's star player in the first half is shown a red card for that challenge on Hakimi.

Awful challenge
Hakimi beats Díaz on the wing, and the Colombian goes flying in from behind and traps Hakimi's ankle under his body weight. He could be in trouble here.
Wonderful football
The Bayern attackers combine superbly as Gnabry, Olise and Kane all combine, before the latter backheels the ball into the path of Kimmich. He takes the ball in his stride and shoots, but he can't quite hit the far corner.
The ball is in the net again
But it won't count. Kane pounces on another loose pass and finds Stanišić, who finishes, but he was in an offside position.
Ruiz fires over
Lee beats a couple of Bayern challenges before giving the ball to Hakimi. Hakimi then finds Ruiz on the edge of the box, but the Spaniard's shot is wayward.
It could be 3-0!
Stanišić wins possession on the edge of the PSG box after Bayern lose it initially. He then feeds Kimmich, who looks to return the ball to Stanišić in the centre, but the full-back decides to dummy the ball for Gnabry instead of shooting himself, and the chance goes to waste.
Lee curls wide
The substitute dips inside and tries to curl an effort in at the far post, but he misses the target.

Díaz pounces
What a mistake! Marquinhos dallies on the ball for too long on the edge of his own box and loses possession to Luis Díaz. The Colombian bursts into the box and hammers home for 2-0. PSG are rocking.
© Stuart Franklin
Off both posts!
Gnabry shoots from the edge of the box only to see his effort bounce off the left post and then onto the right post and clear.
Barcola tests Neuer
A long ball finds Barcola, who touches the pass down perfectly before trying to poke the ball past Neuer, but the Bayern keeper stands tall to make the save.
Good play
A long ball over the top finds Gnabry, but he can't quite find the back of the net. It wouldn't have counted anywhere, though, as he was offside.
Dembélé off injured
After bundling that ball home, Dembélé waved to the bench to say that he couldn't continue. He was a doubt coming into this game, and it seems tonight's match has come too soon for him. Kang-in Lee replaces him, meaning that Kvaratskhelia will move into a more central role.
PSG think they are level
Dembélé bundles the ball home from close range after a volley from Ruiz, but the flag is raised for offside.
![]()
Incredible fluidity
Bayern's base formation is a fairly standard 4231, but that barely scratches the surface of the intricacies of this Bayern side.. Bayern have players popping up all over the place at the moment. Just a few minutes earlier, Upamecano even had a brief stint pressing up front, and Kane was almost playing as a centre-back.
© ANNE-CHRISTINE POUJOULAT
Close
Gnabry benefits from a loose pass from Barcola and feeds Pavlović. His shot is deflected and drifts just wide.
Another shot
Ruiz has a go, but his effort deflects out off Kvaratskhelia, who was standing in an offside position.
Superb technique
Barcola turns Stanišić superbly and bursts forward, but his cross is cleared for a corner. From the set-piece, Vitinha eventually tries his luck, but the shot is blocked.
Almost a chance
Dembélé almost gets on the end of a Laimer back pass, but Neuer is out quickly to clear.
Bayern almost break through again
Good combination play down the left almost sees Laimer with a chance to shoot, but he is superbly challenged by Mendes just before he can let loose.

Bayern lead!
Bayern win the ball in midfield, and Gnabry sends Olise through on goal. His initial effort is saved, but Díaz is there to hammer home the rebound. What a statement!

We're underway
Undoubtedly the game of the week, PSG vs Bayern! Who will come out on top? Can Bayern get revenge for the 2-0 defeat at the Club World Cup and continue their incredible winning run, or will PSG continue to impress in their quest to win the UCL in back-to-back seasons?
Kick-off!
The famous anthem
The players are on the pitch with the Champions League anthem blaring out. Not long to wait now!

Just five minutes from kick-off now under the lights in Paris.

Lizarazu's favourite Bayern player
"Michael Olise is doing really well. You can see how freely he plays. I love it when he's the key player in attack and sets up his teammates perfectly. He's a creative, technically strong player who stands out from the rest. His movements are smooth, and he always looks relaxed. He's still young, getting better and better, and can be a solution for his manager in two positions. Let's see how he develops."

Lizarazu assesses Bayern's chances of UCL glory
“It's difficult to assess at this stage of the season. Of course, Bayern are one of the teams that can win the Champions League. They’re in very good form and have won 15 games in a row. Even with rotation, they play at a high level and the team spirit is fantastic. But it's a long season. You never know for sure until the end. The level you show in November doesn't necessarily have to be the same in the decisive phase in March or April. It's like a sprint finish. You have to be good throughout the season. And when March comes around, you have to be very good to win titles.”

Bixente Lizarazu earmarks key PSG threats
The left-back, who won the Champions League with Bayern in 2001, the World Cup with France in 1998 was interviewed by Bayern's official club channels. The 55-year-old pundit was asked about PSG's danger men and pointed to two in particular: “The full-backs, Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi, are fantastic players. Bayern need to keep a close eye on them because they pose a real threat going forward. They’re physically strong and very quick."

Ousmane Dembélé expected to feature
Amid questions as to whether the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner would feature against Bayern as the Frenchman continues to work his way back to full fitness following a long-term injury sustained back in August, PSG coach Enrique confirmed in his press conference: "Ousmane is fit... He'll play tomorrow of course, I don't know how many minutes but he's ready for the competition. We'll decide how long."

Luis Enrique on facing Bayern
"To know who the best team in Europe is, we have to wait until the end of the season. We have to wait and see how many trophies the team wins. Right now, Bayern are very strong, they always are. We know how difficult the match will be, but we are ready. It will be an exciting match."

Kompany on facing PSG
"You have to believe you can do it. You also need to play a perfect game. We're playing against the Champions League winners and one of the favourites. Playing away makes it even more difficult. We have to believe in our chances."

Neuer on facing PSG
"It'll depend on small details, on how we feel on the day. The important thing is that we stay true to ourselves and try to play our game. Both teams like to have possession, so there will certainly be opportunities for counterattacks. We need to have a good defence and take advantage of situations where we can hurt PSG."
