Tom Bischof speaks on where he expects to play for Bayern Munich this season
Bayern Munich's 21-year-old midfielder Tom Bischof has said that he is willing to play in whatever position coach Vincent Kompany uses him in as he aims to help the club successfully retain their Bundesliga title in 2026/27.
Bischof said after starting Bayern's 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Jeju: "I know there are plans to use me as a number six in the centre, but the coach knows I am open to anything. If he needs me on the left, the right or in goal - no matter, I'll be there!"
The player signed from Hoffenheim in summer 2025 told the Bundesliga in May that it had been "fun" to play at left and right back throughout his first season at the club in addition to his favoured central midfield role.
Bischof started in midfield in the win against Jeju before being replaced by Joshua Kimmich in the 61st minute. He scored a penalty as Bayern were beaten 2-1 by Wehen Wiesbaden in their first friendly of pre-season on 25 July, and the champions have since been rejoined by several of their stars who were in action at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
Bischof said: "It's pleasing to have everyone back, and you can tell that we're getting better and better."
Bischof and Bayern next face a friendly against UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa in Hong Kong on Friday (kick-off 1pm CEST) as they continue to prepare for their Bundesliga title defence on a summer tour of Asia.
The champions face a curtain-raising clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday 22 August (kick-off: 8.30pm CEST) before their league campaign gets underway against VfB Stuttgart on Friday 28 August (kick-off: 8.30pm CEST).
