Full-time Borussia Dortmund 0-2 Internazionale

Late goals from Dimarco and Diouf seal a big win for Inter, although it's not quite enough for the Serie A side to finish in the top eight. Both sides head into the play-offs having stuttered towards the end of the league phase, with Dortmund having also lost last week away at Spurs. Kovač's side created two good chances through Guirassy and Adeyemi, but neither striker was able to keep their composure in front of goal. As a result, Inter head back to northern Italy with all three points.

Diouf double's Inter's lead!

The away side have wrapped up the three points! Adeyemi gives the ball away cheaply in his own half, which is pounced on by Frattesi. The Inter midfielder then plays the ball into substitute Diouf, who weaves his way into the Dortmund box (with some good fortune) and finds the bottom corner of Kobel's net.

Five minutes added on

Die Schwarzgelben have five minutes to try and find an equaliser. As things stand, both sides are heading for the UCL play-offs.
89'

Both sides make changes

Mané looks to have picked up a knock and is replaced by Couto. Inter, meanwhile, have called in the big guns, with Bastoni and Martínez coming on for the final moments.

Referee waves away penalty claim

Adeyemi protested vehemently after being struck in the face by an Inter player's knee in the penalty area. However, the officials deemed the incident insufficient for a VAR review.
83'

Chukwuemeka and Brandt subbed on

It's a double change for Dortmund, who have now slipped down to 17th in the league phase table. Silva and Bensebaini, who was on a yellow card, make way.

Federico Dimarco
80'

Dimarco with the breakthrough!

Well well well....I said he was growing into the game! Mkhitaryan wins a free-kick right on the edge of the box, and Dimarco beautifully curls it into the far corner of the net. It's Inter's first moment of real quality. Kobel had no chance.
75'

Dimarco growing into the game

The visitors are enjoying a decent five-minute spell here. Dimarco's free-kick is just about cleared by the home side, but moments later, the Italian wing-back tees up Esposito in the box, whose shot is well blocked.
75'

Yellow card

70'

Adeyemi makes an immediate impact

He's only been on the pitch for two minutes, but he very nearly hands Dortmund a crucial lead. Silva brilliantly picks out Adeyemi in the box, whose first touch is just a tad too loose. As such, Sommer is able to rush out of goal and smother his shot effectively. A better touch would have created a much bigger headache for the Swiss keeper.
camera-photo

Adeyemi on for the hosts

Here comes the German international. He replaces Guirassy, who had the best chance of the game in the opening moments. Can Adeyemi break the deadlock?
63'

Superb Bensebaini denies Esposito!

The Inter forward races through on goal and looks certain to get a shot off. However, Bensebaini makes an excellent last-ditch sliding tackle - giving away a corner in the process.
60'

Lack of quality in the final third

Inter move the ball well in the Dortmund half, but the move is derailed by Dimarco ballooning his cross into the stands. It sums up the game so far, which has been devoid of quality in the final third for the most part.
57'

Akanji booked

The former Dortmund defender goes into the referee's book for a very late tackle on Bensebaini. Meanwhile, Inter bring on Esposito for the final 30 minutes or so, who scored in last weekend's Serie A win against Pisa.
56'

Yellow card

54'

Dortmund firmly on top - but wasteful

The hosts have dominated the ball so far this half, although they haven't managed to break Inter down with any real conviction.
50'

Beier snatches at his shot

A Dortmund free-kick is partially headed away by Bonny. Beier then collects the loose ball at the edge of the Inter box, but he scuffs his shot and is unable to test Sommer.
camera-photo

Problem for Schlotterbeck

It's a worrying sight for the home fans, as the BVB defender appears to fall awkwardly when going in for a challenge. He is back on his feet now, thankfully.
46'

Second half gets going

We're back underway at Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund make a good start to the half through Bellingham, whose powerful shot from range is well blocked.
Kick-off!
Half-time
camera-photo

Will Kovač turn to the bench?

The hosts could do with a bit of inspiration here. They have some real firepower on the bench, as Brandt and Adeyemi have scored a combined five goals in the UCL this season. The pair have both been warming up on the pitch during the half-time break.
camera-photo

Half-time: Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Internazionale

There is nothing to separate the two sides at the break, who have largely cancelled each other out so far. Dortmund had the best chance of the half through Guirassy, but the forward's tame effort from close range was easily saved by Sommer. As things stand, BVB will finish 16th in the UCL league phase - and therefore are headed for the play-offs.
42'

Bonny sqanders decent opening

Inter go straight down the other end and have a headed chance of their own. A cross into the Dortmund box finds Bonny from a few yards out, but the forward heads into the turf, and Kobel can easily pluck the ball out of the sky.
40'

Silva heads wide

Ryerson curls in a lovely free-kick from the right side of the pitch. Silva rises well to connect with it, but can't direct the ball goalwards.
38'

Acerbi is back on

A few minutes - and a few screams - later, Acerbi is back into the action. His injured finger has now been taped up.
36'

Acerbi in some pain

The Inter defender looks to have dislocated his finger and is, rather understandably, in agony. He is currently off the pitch having it popped back into position again. Ouch.
32'

Ryerson and Beier looking sharp

Most of Dortmund's good work seems to be coming down the right channel. Ryerson continues to look for his teammates with searching crosses, while Beier has already been on a handful of mazy runs. The duo are linking up very well so far.
28'

Kobel testing his knee out

The Dortmund stopper looks to have hurt his knee while diving for the ball. He stretches his right leg out a few times and seems able to continue - for the time being at least.
25'

Dimarco fires wide

Former BVB man Mkhitaryan gets to the byline and flashes a cross into the box. It's half cleared and eventually falls to Dimarco on the edge of the penalty area, who drags his effort a few yards wide of the post. Inter have kicked things up a gear in the last 10 minutes or so, pressing higher up the pitch.
19'

Evenly matched contest so far

Dortmund have had the best opportunity of the game, but Inter are well in this, having enjoyed a decent share of the ball. UCL debutant Mané, playing on the right side of a back-three for the hosts, is doing very well so far, containing the threat of Thuram and Dimarco.
15'

Bisseck not too far away

The German defender finds a pocket of space on the edge of the Dortmund box, and decides to try his luck from range. His shot whizzes a few inches wide of Kobel's right post, much to the keeper's relief.
11'

Huge chance for Guirassy!

The striker has to score! A Dortmund corner comes out to to Ryerson at the edge of the Inter box. His ball finds Guirassy wide open in the six-yard box, but the 29-year-old is just off balance and can't generate any power on his swiveled shot. Sommer is able to collect the ball with ease.
9'

Ryerson threatens from wide

The wing-back has already whipped in a couple of dangerous crosses, but none of Dortmund's forward's can get on the end of them. The hosts have responded well to Inter's strong start.
4'

Visitors enjoy some early possession

Inter have made a strong start here, moving the ball around nicely in the opening exchanges. BVB have settled into a compact low-block, looking to spring forward when they can.
1'

We're underway!

Dortmund get things going for the last time in this season's UCL league phase. Dortmund are, as you might expect, in yellow and black, while Inter are playing in their changed all-white away strip.

The stage is set...

The rain is falling at Signal Iduna Park as kick-off quickly approaches. Can BVB finish the league phase with a confidence-boosting win?

More on that Inter team

Cristian Chivu has chosen to rest several key players tonight, with Martínez, Bastoni and de Vrij all dropping to the bench. Former Dortmund defender Akanji does start for Inter tonight, slotting into the back-three alongside German international Bisseck. Barella misses out altogether due to injury.

More on that Dortmund team

Niko Kovač makes two changes from the side that defeated Union Berlin 3-0 last weekend, with Bensebaini and Mané coming in for Anton (ill) and Svensson (suspended) - neither of whom are in the matchday squad. Mané, 20, is making his UEFA Champions League debut, having only started twice previously for BVB.

Dortmund's superb home form

BVB have won 13 and drawn 7 of their last 21 Champions League matches. A win tonight would give the hosts a slim chance of finishing in the top eight.

Yann Bisseck earmarks Dortmund's quality

Inter's Germany international, Yann Bisseck, highlighted BVB's strength in attack in the pre-match press conference. The centre-back said: "We'll need grit and belief. We'll be hungry and determined, but it's also important to stay clear-headed. In the Champions League, there are always top players: Dortmund have [Serhou] Guirassy, [Karim] Adeyemi, [Maximilian] Beier, and many others. But we're strong defensively too. We need to work together and give our best; that's how we can keep getting stronger."

Familiar faces

Dortmund will come up against several Bundesliga alumni, even if former Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen man Çalhanoğlu will not play a part. Yann Sommer (Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern Munich), Yann Bisseck (Cologne) and Marcus Thuram (Gladbach) are all part of the Inter squad, as are former Dortmund men Manuel Akanji and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Early Inter team news

The Nerazzurri have some midfield problems, with Nicolò Barella and Hakan Çalhanoğlu both unavailable. Denzel Dumfries' ankle injury, meanwhile, will also keep him out.

Early Dortmund team news

Marcel Sabitzer is unavailable for this clash, as is Niklas Süle. Aarón Anselmino, meanwhile, has returned to Chelsea after being recalled from his loan spell at Signal Iduna Park.

Cristian Chivu on facing Dortmund

"It's not easy in this stadium because of the boost it gives to the [home] team. They have energy, individual quality and a clear identity under Niko Kovač. They play a more dominant style, they're good in transition and have good movement up front. We have to by mentally and physically ready. It won't be easy."
camera-photo

Kovač provides update on Sabitzer and Süle

"Marcel Sabitzer and Niklas Süle will be unavailable tomorrow. Sabitzer is still suffering from a calf injury, and Süle has back problems. Salih Özcan is not registered, and Daniel is suspended after his red card. We are therefore a little depleted, but we still have a very strong squad for this match."
camera-photo

Niko Kovač on facing Inter

"Inter is a top-level team, having reached the Champions League final twice in recent years. They are a dynamic team with a very fast transition game. We will have to find the right balance, between not being naive, defending well, but also playing forward."

The Black-Yellows coasted to a comfortable victory over Union in the capital on Matchday 19, with Emre Can, Nico Schlotterback and Maximilian Beier finding the back of the net.

Inter riding high

The Nerazzuri sit at the top of Serie A, five points clear of their city rivals Milan. They beat Pisa 6-2 in their most recent fixture, with former Dortmund maestro Henrikh Mkhitaryan getting on the scoresheet.

Dortmund eyeing century of wins

A victory for Borussia would be their 100th in the European Cup/Champions League. They are unbeaten in their last four European matches at home against Italian teams (W2 D2), while Inter have lost five of their last six Champions League group/league phase matches away from home against German opposition.

Head-to-head

These teams first met nearly 62 years ago in the semi-finals of the 1963/64 European Cup, with eventual winners Inter triumphing 4-2 on aggregate to reach the final. Dortmund have won two and lost two of the four encounters since but were victorious in the most recent meeting, edging to a 3-2 home win in the 2019/20 group stage.

Inter - the story so far

Inter started their campaign with victories over Ajax, Slavia Prague, Union Saint-Gilloise and Kairat, leaving them well-placed to qualify automatically for the round of 16. However, the Nerazzurri have not picked up a single point since, losing to Atlético Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal last time out. They are already through to the knockout stage play-offs and could still secure a direct passage through to the last 16, but they would need to win their final game.
camera-photo

Dortmund - the story so far

Manchester City were the only side to get the better of Niko Kovač’s troops in their opening five league phase games, which also included a 4-4 draw at Juventus and comfortable victories over Athletic Bilbao, Copenhagen and Villarreal. However, after following up a 2-2 draw at home to Bodø/Glimt with a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last time out, Dortmund need to avoid defeat against Inter to confirm their place in the knockout stages.
