Full-time: Bayern Munich 2-0 Union SG

The hosts get the job done, despite not being at their scintillating best. Kane grabbed a deserved brace, although he'll be dissapointed to not be taking home the match-ball after cannoning his second penalty off the crossbar. The win moves Bayern into second place in the UCL league phase table, and secures qualification for the Last 16.

Tah ventures forward

The centre-back finds himself with space inside the Union box, but can't quite control the ball on his chest.

Olise goes off to a standing ovation

He probably should have scored, but that missed chance aside, Olise has been superb tonight. His pin-point corner kick handed Bayern the opening goal, while fine work on the wing led to Bayern's second penalty. On comes Gnabry in his place for the final few moments.

Four minutes added-on

Not long left now. Will Bayern add another to round off the win in style?
88'

Two minutes of normal time left

Bayern are controlling proceedings here, suffocating Union with long spells of possession. They're almost over the line, both in terms of the win, and qualification of the Last 16.
84'

Olise misses a sitter!

Díaz races through on goal and squares it across the box for Olise, who has a simple finish. However, the Frenchman gets completely under the ball, sending it flying into the vacant Südkurve. We've seen some big misses this evening...
82'

Final changes for Union

Keita and Schoofs are on for the away side. They have eight minutes, plus added time, to try and salvage something.
camera-photo

Kane hits the bar!

Wow. You don't see that very often. He steps up to take the penalty, but puts too much power on it and rattles the frame of the goal. Could this give Union some hope of making a late comeback?

Harry Kane

Penalty missed!

Penalty check for Bayern!

The hosts have a handball appeal after nice work from Olise. It goes to VAR, and Bayern are awarded a second penalty after a monitor review. Kane can get a hat-trick here...
75'

Belgians struggle to make inroads

Despite being a man down, Union haven't been able to break down Bayern's stubborn defense. Even Kane has dropped deep for Bayern to try and close out the win.

Bayern close in on their 250th European victory

They will become only the second team to reach the milestone after Real Madrid if they close out the win tonight.
68'

Here come the changes...

Both sides are quick to make subs following Kim's red card. Ito and Davies are on for the hosts, while Union introduce Patris, Leysen and Fuseini.

David goes into the referee's book

Olise is on the wrong end of it this time. David appears to tread on the ankle of the Frenchman and picks up a yellow. It means he'll miss Union's last UCL group match.

Kim is off!

The defender picks up a second yellow card for tugging back the onrushing Florucz. He and his Bayern teammates are dumbfounded by his dismissal.

Bayern firmly on top

Union SG have barely ventured out of their own half in the last 10 minutes or so. It's Bayern who are well on top, threatening to get a third goal.

The winger picks up a yellow for a very late challenge on Sykes.

Clinical from Kane!

You bet he can! Kane wins the penalty and then scores it, firing past Scherpen, despite the stopper going the right way. That's his seventh UCL goal of the season.

Penalty to Bayern!

Kane with the breakthough!

Olise fires in another inviting corner, and it's Kane who breaks his three-game goalless run in the UCL to head home at the near post. it was right on the money from Olise, and the Englishman simply couldn't miss.

It's a wonderful attempted through ball by the Bayern captain, but it just eludes Kane. FCB already look a touch sharper in this half.

Half-time: Bayern Munich 0-0 Union SG

Not the start to the game that Bayern would have wanted, as Union have very much had the best chances of the half. David, in particular, will be kicking himself for not having tested Neuer from close range. Olise has had some bright moments, but the hosts will hope to bring Kane into the game more in the second half, who has hardly had a sniff at goal. Union must surely be the happier of the two sides going into the break.
Half-time
44'

Bayern finishing the half strongly

Union have dropped a lot deeper into a defensive shape, giving Bayern the chance to knock the ball around. Olise is trying to inject some urgency into the Bayern attack. It's much better from the hosts.
camera-photo

Guerreiro heads over the bar!

The full-back can't keep his effort down from Olise's excellent corner-kick. Kane barks at his team-mate, telling him he should have left it. If Guerreiro did, the striker would have had a free header from six yards out.
37'

Kompany frustrated

The head coach is gesticulating to his players from the sideline, seemingly unhappy with what he's seen. As he does so, Smith marauds forward to launch another Union counter, which is well dealt with by Guerreiro.
32'

Bayern attackers loose in possession

Díaz cuts a frustrated figure on the left, as he runs the ball out of play following some tidy build-up. The ball just isn't sticking in the final third for Bayern.
camera-photo

Neuer saves well from David!

It could be 2-0 to Union here! A teasing cross picks out David from close range, who heads it too close to the Bayern keeper. It's another big chance for the visitors, who have been on top so far.
26'

Union growing with confidence

They look very comfortable on the ball, keeping things ticking over nicely in midfield. Florucz looks a threat down the right for Union.
21'

Big chance for Mac Allister!

A dangerous free-kick is whipped into the Bayern box, but the Union defender can't quite divert it goalwards on the stretch. It's a big let-off for FCB...
18'

Kim picks up an early yellow

David spins well on the counter, but he is rather cynically taken down by Kim on the halfway line. The Union forward may have been clean through on goal otherwise.
18'

Yellow card

15'

Olise looking dangerous

The hosts are yet to fully get going, but everything they've done well so far has gone through Olise. His teammates are picking him out at every opportunity.
12'

Karl tries his luck from range

The teeenager finds a pocket of space just outside the Union box, but drags his effort wide of Scherpen's post.
8'

First corner goes to Union

The Belgian side have made a decent start here, but the eventual corner is easily dealt with by Bayern. It's been a pretty even contest so far.
camera-photo

Kane collides with the Union keeper

Olise hangs up an inviting cross, but it's the Union stopper who gets there first, colliding with Kane as he goes to punch it. The England captain is back to his feet after some treatment.
1'

We're underway!

Here we go then, Bayern can wrap up qualification for the KO stage with a win. It's a slightly muted atmosphere at the Allianz tonight, with fans in the home side's Südkurve banned from the stadium by UEFA.

Table talk

Bayern Munich will return to second in the UCL league phase table with a win, leapfrogging Real Madrid. Should the hosts do so, and results elsewhere go in their favour tonight, they also will qualify for the Last 16.
camera-photo

A historic first meeting

Tonight's clash at the Allianz Arena will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, with Bayern losing just three games against Belgian opposition in their history – all of those defeats coming against Anderlecht, while USG have won one, drawn two, and lost one in their four games against German opposition.

More on that Union SG team

Raul Florucz is back for the visitors after recovering from a calf injury, while midfielder Rob Schoofs is only fit enough for the bench after missing the game against Mechelen on Saturday with illness. This season's top goalscorer, Promise David, leads the line once again for Union. He has nine goals in 19 Belgian Pro League matches this season.

More on that Bayern team

Vincent Kompany makes two changes from the Bayern side that won 5-1 against RB Leipzig last weekend, with Olise and Kim coming in for Upamecano and Gnabry. Musiala is among the substitutes, meaning he could make his first UCL appearance of the season.

Early Bayern team news

There are a few issues for Vincent Kompany to contend with here. Sacha Boey may have recovered from illness in time to feature here, but Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer are likely out until February because of ankle and calf problems, respectively. Nicolas Jackson, following Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations triumph over Morocco in the final, is unlikely to be back for this one.

Good omens

Head-to-head

The two sides have never met in UEFA competitions, but they have both played against teams from their respective nations. In their last 11 matches against Belgian opposition, Bayern have only lost once, winning seven. Equally, Union SG have a remarkably good record against German sides, having won three, drawn three and lost two of their last eight. They are also unbeaten in their four games in Germany.

Union Saint-Gilloise - the story so far

Union Saint-Gilloise got their qualifying campaign underway in perfect fashion with a 3-1 win away to PSV Eindhoven, but since then, they have lost four of their five matches (one win). Their last game in the competition was a narrow 3-2 loss at home to Marseille. Despite that, the Belgian side are still on the verge of the top 24 and a place in the round of 16. They currently sit just one point behind 24th-placed F.C. Copenhagen.

Bayern - the story so far

Bayern's scintillating form has also been apparent in the Champions League, with their only blemish being a loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. This means that Bayern are currently second in the standings, having won their other five games. Last time out, they beat Sporting Lisbon 3-1 in Munich. A draw for Bayern on Wednesday would guarantee a place in the knockout phase, whereas a win could even seal a place in the round of 16.
