Full-time: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham leave Deutsche Bank Park with all three points, with Frankfurt never really threatening the visitors tonight. Spurs' dominance only continued in the second half, which got off to a flying start when Kolo Muani scored two minutes after the restart. Solanke then doubled their lead late on, as the visitors were rewarded for their constant pressure on the Eagles.

Still threatening

Spence fires in a low cross across the box but can't find a white shirt and Frankfurt clear.
camera-photo

Dills enters

18-year-old Marvin Dills makes his Champions League debut for the Eagles.
82'

Long way back

With less than ten minutes to play and Frankfurt having been lacklustre in attack all game, it's hard to see a way back into the game for the Eagles.
camera-photo

It's two! Solanke doubles Spurs' lead

Unaware of his surroundings, Dahoud heads a loose ball over his own backline and into the path of Solanke, who takes a touch into the area before slotting his finish into the far bottom corner.

Ringing the changes

Frankfurt make an attack-minded triple substitution, with Dōan, Chaïbi and Dahoud tasked with helping the Eagles find a way back into this game.
camera-photo

Relentless pressure

Frankfurt can't breathe at the moment, with Spurs launching attack after attack.
67'

Danger averted

Simons' deflected free-kick bounces narrowly wide of the goal having wrongfooted the 'keeper, but the referee blows for an offside anyway meaning that it wouldn't have stood.
65'

Dangerous position

Höjlund fouls Simons just outside his own box and Spurs now have a free-kick not too far from goal.
61'

Just wide

A deep cross finds the head of Kolo Muani, whose header spins narrowly wide of the goal with Kauã Santos at full stretch.
camera-photo

Frustrated

Frankfurt look short of ideas in attack, with Spurs proving tricky customers so far.
52'

Probing

The Eagles are enjoying a spell on the ball, but can they find a way through the Spurs backline?
camera-photo

Goal! Spurs with a dream start

Simons swings in a cross to Romero at the far post, who heads the ball across the six-yard box for Kolo Muani to tap in to an empty net.

Half-time

Half-time: Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur

The hosts defended well, but will have spent more time defending than perhaps they would have liked. They survived an early scare when Simons had a goal ruled out in the opening minutes, but didn't cause enough problems of their own and spent the majority of the first 45 defending their box.
45'

Big chance!

Skhiri plays a ball over the top into the path of Larsson, who makes a brilliant run. He drives toward goal before firing an effort off the near post.
41'

Can Frankfurt hold out?

Will the hosts manage to keep the scores level until the break, or will Spurs' pressure pay off?
camera-photo

Under the cosh

Spurs are having all of the ball at the moment, with Frankfurt on the backfoot.
31'

Another chance!

Kauã Santos gives the ball away cheaply and Simons has the ball inside the box. He skips past Koch and advances toward goal, where the 'keeper makes up for his mistake and smothers Simons' finish.
29'

Off the post!

Odobert tries his luck from distance and slams an effort off the near post.
28'

Frankfurt fortunate

A cross from the left almost finds Spence at the far post, but it's just too high for him. The ball does fall to Odobert behind him, but he can't react quickly enough and the ball simply bounces off him and into the hands of Kauã Santos.
24'

Blazed over

Spence cuts his cross back to Gray, who lays it off to Sarr a couple yards outside of the area. He strikes it first time and gets right underneath it, and can only watch as it soars over the bar.
camera-photo

Overhit

Skhiri tries to find the run of Götze into the box with an in-swinging cross but gets too much on it and sees it sail into the hands of Vicario.
19'

Nicely done

The Eagles play their way out of a press and manage to park themselves in the Spurs half.
16'

Going for the spectacular

Theate tries his luck from a considerable distance, which hits Knauff and goes out for a goal-kick.
12'

Almost!

Simons' cross goes deep to Romero, who heads back across the box to Palhinha. He forces a brilliant save from Kauã Santos from close range.
11'

Clearing their lines

Spence and Odobert swing in a series of crosses, all of which Frankfurt deal with, but now leave them with a corner to defend.
8'

Hosts recover

After that early scare, Frankfurt are now in possession and looking to cause problems of their own.
camera-photo

Spurs have a goal ruled out!

The visitors think they've taken the lead via Simons, but a VAR review sees it ruled out for a foul on Amenda in the build up and Frankfurt survive!

Change in shape

Rather than having Kalimuendo spearhead the attack ahead of two attacking midfielders, Götze and Knauff (pictured) will form a double act at the top end of the pitch, with Höjlund, Skhiri and Larsson forming a midfield three. Buta and Brown will provide the width at wing-back, with Theate, Koch and Amenda forming the defensive base.

Spurs' record in Germany

The visitors have played seven Champions League fixtures here in Germany before, winning twice, drawing three times, and losing twice. They've faced Borussia Dortmund (2), Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Frankfurt, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich in that time.

Former Bundesliga trio start for Spurs

Former Augsburg man Kevin Danso, ex-Eagle Kolo Muani and former RB Leipzig man Xavi Simons are all in the starting XI for the opposition tonight.

More on that Frankfurt team

Frankfurt make a host of changes from their recent loss to Hoffenheim. Kalimuendo, Uzun, Dōan, Kristensen, Chaïbi and Collins are replaced by Götze, Knauff, Höjlund, Larsson, Buta and Theate.

The only way is up

Frankfurt have faced English opposition at home in the Champions League just twice, winning neither game. They fell to a 5-1 defeat against Liverpool earlier this season, and drew 0-0 with Spurs back in the 2022/23 season.

Spurs turning up in the Champions League

Despite struggling in the Premier League, Tottenham are in remarkable form in the Champions League, opening the scoring in their last four matches and keeping clean sheets in four of the last five. They are also unbeaten in their last six (4W, 2D) in European competitions against German opposition.
camera-photo

Unlikely goal threat

Spurs captain Cristian Romero - a centre-back by trade - has scored in each of the English outfit's last three outings in all competitions, including on Matchday 7 of the UCL at home to Borussia Dortmund. In addition to nullifying a strong forward line, Die Adler will have to be aware that Tottenham have players who carry a goal threat right the way through their team.
camera-photo

Ansgar Knauff on his best position

Eintracht's winger Knauff has been deployed all across the forward line throughout Frankfurt's UCL campaign. When asked about his favourite position, the No.7 replied: "I enjoy playing anywhere on the pitch; it doesn't matter which position I'm deployed in. I'm extremely excited for this Champions League match."

Familiar faces

Besides van de Ven and Palhinha, Frankfurt will come up against several former Bundesliga players in Kevin Danso (Augsburg), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig) and Mathys Tel (Bayern). Randal Kolo Muani, meanwhile, scored 26 goals in 50 appearances for Eintracht before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
camera-photo

Early Tottenham team news

Spurs, meanwhile, have injury issues all over the pitch. Ex-Wolfsburg man Micky van de Ven is amongst a group of absentees that also includes Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison, Mohamed Kudus, James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski. In a boost to Thomas Frank, though, former Bayern Munich man João Palhinha is fit again and is ready to feature.
camera-photo

Early Frankfurt team news

Frankfurt still have something of a striker crisis to deal with as Jonathan Burkardt, Michy Batshuayi and Younes Ebnoutalib are all unavailable. Can Uzun, meanwhile, will be missing for the foreseeable future due to a muscle problem. Joining that quartet on the sidelines are Timothy Chandler and Mahmoud Dahoud.

Thomas Frank on facing Frankfurt

"They may not be in their best form, but it's a team that has done fantastic in the league last year and I still think they have done some fantastic games this season. They just played 3-3 with Dortmund, I think, four or five games ago. They have very good players and they have a clear identity in what they want to do. I expect a very difficult game. We know they are very good in the transitions. I know on paper they don't have anything to play for, but sometimes you can play free, I have been in this game long enough that you never know what you're going to face. We have to focus on us with big respect for Frankfurt and all their strengths."
camera-photo

Daniel Schmitt on facing Tottenham

"We're preparing for a very good opponent, an English team that will be very physical. Tottenham has a lot of individual quality, but so do we. We have a good plan, we'll challenge Tottenham and give them our all."
camera-photo

Spurs continue to stumble

Tottenham drew 2-2 with relegation candidates Burnley in their most recent Premier League fixture, as their domestic struggles continue under Thomas Frank. They sit in 14th at the moment, nine points away from European qualification.

Frankfurt's record-breaker

Head-to-head

Frankfurt’s only victory in six meetings with Spurs was a 2-1 win in the quarter-final second leg of the 1981//82 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup - but it was not enough to secure a place in the last four after a 2-0 win for the London outfit on home soil. A goalless draw in the 2022/23 Champions League group stage was followed by a 3-2 away defeat for Eintracht eight days later, while Spurs also triumphed 2-1 on aggregate in last season’s UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.
camera-photo

Tottenham - the story so far

Tottenham’s only league phase defeat this season has come against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain. They have won all four of their home games without conceding - including against Borussia Dortmund last time out - while battling to draws at Bodø/Glimt and Monaco, leaving them fifth on 14 points. Victory at Deutsche Bank Park would secure a last-16 spot, but they are guaranteed a place in the knockout round play-offs at the very least.

Frankfurt - the story so far

Eintracht have failed to win any of their six league phase games since roaring out of the traps with a 5-1 win over Galatasaray. They battled to an impressive goalless draw at Napoli on Matchday 4, but defeats to Atlético Madrid, Liverpool, Atalanta, Barcelona and Qarabağ have put paid to their hopes of a place in the knockout stages.
