Half-time summary

The spectators in Paderborn are witnessing a fast-paced, high-quality match that goes into the break with a fair 1-1 draw. Paderborn had a strong phase where, after a missed penalty by Obermair, the home side deservedly took the lead through Mehlem a little later. Then Cologne applied pressure, creating several chances, including a shot off the post by Rondić, before it finally rang in the Paderborn net when a shot by Rondić hit the post, rebounded off Götze's back and into the goal for the 1-1 equaliser.

Milestone for Lemperle

Tim Lemperle is making his 50th appearance in the Bundesliga 2 (18th for Cologne, 32 for Fürth). So far, he has scored 14 goals (eight for Cologne, six for Fürth).

Five changes in total

In addition to the changes at the back, there are also two new players up front: Tim Lemperle starts for the first time since matchday 15, and alongside him, Imad Rondic gets his second chance in the starting eleven (previously on matchday 23 against Düsseldorf). That makes a total of five changes for Cologne - the most they've made this season (also five recently in the 1-0 win in Ulm).

New Cologne defence

Gerhard Struber must restructure his defence: Captain Timo Hübers, Dominique Heintz and Jusuf Gazibegović, three regular starters, are out! Leart Paqarada, Joël Schmied and Denis Huseinbašić are brought into the team to replace them.

Cologne's nemesis Michel

In the first leg, Sven Michel came off the bench to score two goals, leading Paderborn to a 2-1 victory against Cologne. In his last three Bundesliga 2 matches against Cologne, Michel scored three goals, celebrated three wins and was involved in five goals.

Three changes for Paderborn

Tjark Scheller, who has just returned from a yellow card suspension, starts in place of the suspended Laurin Curda. Additionally, Casper Terho and Sven Michel come into the team for Martin Ens and Ilyas Ansah.

The Cologne line-up

Schwäbe - Schmied, Martel, Paqarada - Thielmann, Olesen, Huseinbašić, Finkgräfe - Waldschmidt - Rondić, Lemperle

This is how Paderborn lines up

Riemann - Scheller, Götze, Hoffmeier - Obermair (c), Mehlem, Castaneda, Zehnter - Bilbija - Terho, Michel

Lukas Kwasniok on facing Cologne

"It's a top match, both teams are in good form. We approach this task humbly, but with conviction. Cologne's greatest strength, however, is that they can compensate well for absences. Cologne and Hamburg are the best teams in the Bundesliga 2."

Gerhard Struber on facing Paderborn

"We know that Paderborn are close, so it's a match that could see us could pull away a bit. At the same time, there are still only three points at stake. We will approach it extremely professionally. It will be a top match and I'm looking forward to facing an opponent who will demand everything from us. We need to be alert in all areas and give everything we've got. Then I'm firmly convinced that it will be difficult to play against us."

Good memories

Tim Lemperle made his Bundesliga 2 debut on 30 July 2023, scoring a goal in Greuther Fürth's 5-0 victory against Paderborn.

Billy Goats successful in top flight

Cologne won their last away match in Paderborn on 6 March 2020 in the Bundesliga with a 2-1 victory. In their last Bundesliga 2 encounter at the Home Deluxe Arena in February 2019, they led 2-0 until the 80th minute but still lost 3-2. Florian Kainz received a second yellow card in the 89th minute of that match.

Recently very one-sided

Paderborn have won the last four encounters in the Bundesliga 2! In the first-leg match, they came from behind to win 2-1 in Cologne, thanks to substitute Sven Michel who netted twice.

Who will break the balance?

After 15 competitive matches so far (four in the Bundesliga, eleven in the Bundesliga 2), the record between Paderborn and Cologne is absolutely balanced (five wins for each team and five draws).
