Jamal Musiala undergoes routine surgery following Germany's World Cup exit
Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala has undergone surgery after returning from the FIFA World Cup 2026 following Germany's round of 32 exit.
The 23-year-old underwent a minor, routine operation that had long been scheduled for the period after the tournament in North America as part of a standard medical follow-up to the serious injury he suffered last summer for Bayern at the FIFA Club World Cup.
In that tournament, Musiala sustained a fractured fibula with a broken and dislocated ankle in a quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain which caused the midfielder to miss 32 games across all competitions last term whilst he undertook the long road to recovery.
Now, following Germany's early exit from this summer's tournament at the hands of Paraguay, Bayern seized the opportunity to complete the procedure, confirming that the attacking player will be able to complete his pre-season preparations according to a clearly structured plan, to ensure that he will be available for the start of Bayern's competitive season when they take on fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August.
Musiala joins Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry currently undergoing rehabilitation at Bayern's Säbener Straße, whilst the trio's teammates are due to return to training on 20 July as they get their pre-season preparations underway ahead of their Audi Summer Tour to East Asia in August.
