7 August: Bayern overcome Villa

Josip Stanišić on Nathaniel Brown's arrival

"My goal is to play as many matches as possible and stay fit. My role hasn't changed. When Hiroki [Ito] arrived – and he can play in that position too – it was up to me to make the coach's decision a difficult one. As a team, it's great to have another strong player in the squad."

Kompany on Hong Kong

"It's a magnificent stadium, definitely different from the one I played in [on Manchester City's pre-season tour 13 years ago]. I've really enjoyed coming here. I've been here on holiday before, and I like the place very much. I'm delighted to be here as Bayern coach."

Kompany on Friday's game

"We want to win, but the most important thing is our fitness and attitude - much more so than how both teams will perform later in the season."

Kompany on the 2026/27 campaign

"It's difficult to improve. After all, it's not just about the trophies we've won, but also about the number of goals and matches we've won. It's possible, but difficult. Right now, I'd say our aim is to win the Champions League. To win the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League, we need the whole squad to be fit and healthy."

Kompany on Aston Villa

"They are a top side with a very good coach [Unai Emery]. They have a large squad and will field plenty of talent. They've already played more friendlies than us, but for us it’s a good challenge. It’s a match in which we’ll learn a lot about our team’s fitness."

6 August: Focus on Villa

Vincent Kompany is set to face the media today ahead of Friday's friendly against last season's UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa. We'll be bringing you live updates from the press conference in Hong Kong as well as the Bavarians' subsequent training session this afternoon.

Watch: Bischof on Bayern's preparations

'Typical' of Basti

“The way Basti scored that goal was typical of him,” Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said of Assomo. “There are still many aspects of his game he needs to improve, but for a 16-year-old forward of his size, it’s really impressive that he can strike a ball like that.”

Praise for Assomo

Bayern teenager Bastian Assomo has received glowing praise from team-mate Tom Bischof following his winning goal against Jeju SK on Tuesday. “He’s a very good footballer - a classic centre-forward who scores goals, which is what we need,” said Bischof. “The way he controls the ball is incredible for his age, and he’s a superb finisher too.”

Vincent Kompany's side took a win on a sweltering evening on Jeju. All of the goals came in the first half, with Bayern academy graduates Chávez and Assomo scoring either side of Chang-Min Lee's 15-minute strike. The champions could have added to their lead in the second period, as the likes of Pavlović, Laimer and Díaz all had decent opportunities in front of goal.

Bayern boys get to grips with ground

The squad trained on Monday at the World Cup Stadium in Jeju ahead of their friendly there on Tuesday (kick-off: 1pm CEST). It is a ground that holds some good memories for German fans - as Germany beat Paraguay 1-0 in the 2002 World Cup last 16 there.

Jeju coach Sérgio Costa on facing Bayern

"Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world. I'm really looking forward to playing against them tomorrow. We have to enjoy it, as then we'll also play better. We're also very happy to see Minjae, of course, as he's a very down-to-earth and top person."

Minjae Kim on the trip to his homeland

"I'm very happy to be here with the team - it's a very significant time for me in Korea. Tomorrow we play against Jeju SK, and we'll be able to learn a lot from each other. I'm looking forward to it."

Vincent Kompany on his impressions in Jeju

"First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for the warm welcome we've received since arriving on Jeju. I believe these trips are part of the pre-season for most teams – so it's crucial that we can travel, train, and play under the best possible conditions. All of that is in place, so this will be a very positive part of our preparations."

3 August: Gearing up for first friendly

Monday morning in Korea saw the Bayern squad pose for a team photo at their hotel, while club legends Roy Makaay and Giovane Élber met fans at a pop-up Bayern store at the Jeju World Cup Stadium. The squad are to train there later ahead of tomorrow's friendly match against Jeju SK (kick-off: 1pm CEST), while Vincent Kompany will also hold a pre-match press conference.

Laimer targets more silveware

"We can still play better football, all of us together. We want to start the season with that mindset. Last season went well, but we can and want to do even better," the Austrian said with eyes on completing a continental treble.

Straight down to work

Bayern completed their first training session on Jeju Island shortly after their arrival. Acclimatising to their new environment was the main focus of the 90-minute session.

Neuer keen to meet fans

Bayern's legendary goalkeeper told South Korean journalists shortly after Bayern's arrival on Jeju Island: "Wherever we train and play or see fans, we will go to them and sign autographs. We are doing the tour for ourselves too though, as we are preparing for the new season. We will go about it with 100 per cent focus and discipline."

2 August: Bayern boys have landed

The champions arrived on the island of Jeju on Sunday after an 11-hour flight - and had a little time to greet the fans who had awaited their arrival at the airport before heading to their hotel.

Squad news

Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano are among the big-name absentees. They're on an extended break after contesting the World Cup bronze final, and will link up with the team following the tour. Alphonso Davies and new signing Ismael Saibari, meanwhile, will stay in Munich to focus on fitness work.

Bayern's plans

In addition to the two friendly matches against Jeju SK and Aston Villa, the Bundesliga champions are to take part in two open training sessions - at the Jeju World Cup Stadium on Monday 3 August at 18:00 local time (11:00 CEST), and in Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium on Thursday 6 August at 18:00 local time (12:00 CEST). Various fan events are also planned.

Hoeneß laughs off transfer speculation

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß has insisted that "the best attacking trio in the world" - by which he means Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz - are all staying at the club amid transfer speculation. "As far as I'm concerned, it's simply not an issue," the 74-year-old said. "The Emperor of China himself could come calling [and Bayern wouldn't sell]."

So, what's been happening at Bayern?

The short answer is: plenty. Leon Goretzka, Raphaël Guerreiro and Nicolas Jackson have departed, while Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown have arrived, with João Palhinha and Sacha Boey returning from loans. The same goes for 20-year-old attacking midfielder Arijon Ibrahimović (pictured) who was at Heidenheim last season but will be a firm part of Kompany's squad this term.

Who won't be there?

Bayern have confirmed that Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano won't be back with the team until after this tour, having reached the final four of the World Cup. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Ismael Saibari, Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl (both pictured) will also all remain in Munich as they work on their recovery from injuries.

Big names on board

Bayern are set to travel with a mostly full squad of senior players, bolstered by several youngsters. Manuel Neuer and the rest of the Germany players who competed at the World Cup joined up with the team at their camp in Tegernsee from 27 to 30 July. Luis Díaz, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić are also set to be on the plane after their post-World Cup holidays.

Two friendlies

The Bundesliga champions will face local K League 1 club Jeju SK on 4 August in South Korea (9pm local time/1pm CEST). When they move to Hong Kong, they will then take on UEFA Europa League holders Aston Villa on 7 August (9pm/2pm). The two last met in the league phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.
