Full-time: Bayern Munich 5-0 Hamburg

The final whistle brings an end to Bayern's display of strength as they win 5-0. The game was effectively over after 30 mins after goals from Serge Gnabry, Aleksandar Pavlović, Harry Kane and Luis Díaz. Kane added a second after the interval in what was a better second period for HSV. Bayern were dominant throughout, while Hamburg will need to lick their wounds and move on quickly from here.

Olise's shot is deflected onto the top of the woodwork. Should he not find the back of the net here, it will be the first time in seven Bundesliga outings that he has failed to do so.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Bayern do not have a particularly high xGoals value, but they are still four goals ahead on the scoreline.

Half-time: Bayern Munich 4-0 Hamburg

A very difficult first half for Hamburg comes to a close. The reigning champions lead by four goals to nil, with Serge Gnabry, Aleksandar Pavlović, Harry Kane and Luis Díaz finding the back of the net, and it really could have been more. All Hamburg can really do now is try and limit the damage.

Dompé on facing Bayern Munich

“We know they’re the best team in Germany. We’ll go there with no pressure as we have nothing to lose. The main thing is to play well and take as much as we can. If we manage a draw or even a win, that would be great for everyone. But if we lose, we have lost nothing because they’re the best team in the league.”

Dompé on new arrivals Fábio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga

"Honestly, these were positions where we were a bit short of players. And I think the fact they have come from a big club like Arsenal is beneficial for everyone because they’ll bring their experience from being at a big club and be able to show their potential."
camera-photo

Jean-Luc Dompé on HSV's start to the season

"I think we still have potential for improvement. A lot of new signings arrived this summer, and the team changed a lot compared to last year. I think each player will bring their experience and potential to the team."

Full circle

Kompany's last appearance as a player in the Bundesliga was for HSV in Munich in 2008. "I remember the game. It was after that that I decided to leave," the Belgian explained on Friday. "They brought me back from the Olympics and then put me on the bench. I was really annoyed. It was after that match that I decided to go elsewhere. Everything else at HSV was great. I have great memories of my time there. My father tried to convince me to stay, but I wanted to go."

Kompany talks HSV days

"I didn't have many clubs during my career. I've always maintained a connection to the clubs. My time in Hamburg wasn't that easy in a sporting sense. It wasn't easy personally either, but still nice. My mother passed away while I was there, my sister had cancer. But I made lots of friends. The club was always there for me. The connection still exists. But my focus is now on Bayern."
camera-photo

Vincent Kompany on facing HSV

"We're always the favourites at home. But every match has its dangers. Every team comes to get something. We're playing against an opponent full of confidence. It doesn't matter what match it is. I never want the team to take a step back. We always need to give our all. We play for Bayern Munich. Every game is difficult. There are no easy ones."

Question mark hangs over Torunarigha

The centre-back continued to suffer from an achilles issue during the international break and will be assessed again on Friday before a decision on his involvement is made.
camera-photo

Merlin Polzin on facing Bayern

“In this game we’ll clearly be second favourite, but we’ll prepare like with every game to try and make the most of our opportunities. Regardless of the opponent we try to be as positive as possible with our players. We know we’re playing against the strongest team in Germany and one of the best in Europe, so it’s definitely a special game for us, but during the week we’ve impressed upon the players the ideas that we’ll build our foundation on and we’ll try to be dangerous.”
