Heidenheim breathe life back into their survival bid with a win over Union. Mathias Honsak was his side's hero in the first half, scoring his first two goals of the season to put his team in control. While Union did pull one back through Leopold Querfeld, Budu Zivzivadze settled any late nerves with a fantastic finish. Remarkably, Heidenheim are now unbeaten in 12 league games against Union, with this victory ending a run of 15 Bundesliga fixtures without a win.

Frank Schmidt on facing Union

"They know exactly what they need to do to survive in the Bundesliga. They're very robust and physical. I think our recent games have been decent in terms of the performance. Now we need to try and cut out the mistakes. We had the Gladbach game completely under control but then dropped off defensively and were immediately punish. The team knows we need to cut that out immediately."

Landmark appearance for Union youngster?

Much speculation has surrounded Union's Linus Güther recently, who only turned 16 on Wednesday and could potentially make his senior debut against Heidenheim. The young winger trained with the senior team during the international break and has already impressed Steffen Baumgart, who said of him: "“He showed what he can do on the ball — and very quickly earned a lot of respect[...] We’ll see after the final training session on Friday whether he makes the squad.” If he plays, Güther will become the second-youngest Bundesliga debutant in history after Dortmund's Youssoufa Moukoko, aged 16 years and three days.

Oliver Burke clocked up the fastest speed of the 2025/26 season so far against St. Pauli last weekend, hitting a staggering 37.0 km/h. Eintracht Frankfurt's Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is the only Bundesliga player since 2011 to have hit a faster top speed (37.2 km/h).
