Bochum are on a three-match winning run over Düsseldorf in Bundesliga 2, scoring ten goals and conceding only one in that time. Fortuna's last league victory against VfL was a 2-1 away win in March 2017, when Ihlas Bebou scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Play-off thriller

There have since been 16 encounters in Bundesliga 2 as well as a memorable promotion/relegation play-off back in May 2024.
