Almost the perfect ball

Following some good movement from Hack, Elvedi threads a delicious ball into the path of the winger who had got himself into the box. Unfortunately for the Foals, Union 'keeper Rønnow was alert to the danger and managed to smother the ball before Hack could do anything with it.

What's at stake?

Well, Union are 10 points clear of the bottom three and now looking to finish the season as strong as possible, while pulling further ahead of the relegation places. Seven points and five places ahead of them are Gladbach in eighth, just two back from a European spot.

Steffen Baumgart's thoughts on Gladbach

"Gladbach are in very good form - we've seen that, but we should play the game first. It's important to play to our strengths. We're up against a team that, based on their performance in recent weeks and the season as a whole, might even have a chance of making it into European competition, so we know what to expect from that alone. We have to remember that, but the fact of the matter is that we want to take the three points here and we want to perform well."

Gerardo Seoane's thoughts on Union

"They cause problems for almost all teams at home. It is always a tough nut to crack to play there because the opponent is usually very compact and aggressive and uses a lot of physical force. In recent years we have rarely managed to defend ourselves against the opponent's strength in tackle."

Tale of the tape

Of the 13 meetings between these two, Union have a clear upper hand, winning seven to Gladbach's two. The last match-up earlier this season ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the Foals, though, although they are still waiting for their first win at the Alte Försterei.

Battle of the in-form strikers

Benedict Hollerbach was the hero for Union at Hoffenheim at the weekend, netting a brace to take his season tally to six goals for the season - his career best in the top flight. He still has some way to catch Tim Kleindienst, though, whose 13 strikes in the Bundesliga make him the highest scoring German in Europe's top five leagues.

Stingy at the back

Union have kept clean sheets in each of their past two outings. A third consecutive match without conceding against Gladbach would create a bit of Bundesliga history for them - never before have they gone on such a run in the top flight.

Looking to break the drought

Gladbach have picked up seven points themselves from their past three outings, and have a chance to win a second successive away match in the Bundesliga for the first time in almost three years. At the Alte Försterei, though, where Union have amassed 16 of their 24-point total this term, that will not be easy.

Baumgart having an impact

The new boss, who replaced Bo Svensson in December, has got Union heading in the right direction. In their last four matches, they have picked up seven points and are now 10 ahead of the relegation zone. They will be looking to continue their ascent up the table in the coming weeks.

Union without Trimmel

A yellow card from the bench against Hoffenheim last weekend means Christopher Trimmel is suspended here. He joins the injured Aljoscha Kemlein and youngster Oluwaseun Ogbemudia in the stands, but there is some good news for the Iron Ones in the former of Kevin Vogt's return to training. While he is still a doubt for this one, his inclusion has not been ruled out.
