The Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 campaigns are at the end of a three-week break due to an extended international window. The top two divisions' finest have travelled across the globe to represent their countries, but who was called up and how did they get on?

Pejčinović pounces twice
Stuttgart striker Dženan Pejčinović scored a match-winning brace as Germany U21 beat Georgia to secure qualification for the 2027 European Championships in front of over 20,000 fans in Bielefeld.
Dortmund full-back Ramy Bensebaini came on as a substitute in the 61st minute in Algeria's friendly against Niger, and scored the winning goal in the 2-1 win from the penalty spot ten minutes later.
Bayer Leverkusen defender Facundo Medina came on in the 52nd minute to receive his 17th Argentina cap as the legendary Lionel Messi marked his final international appearance in a 3-0 win over Benin in a friendly in Buenos Aires.
Elversberg's Cole Campbell came on as a substitute for Dortmund teenager Mathis Albert to make his US National Team debut in a 1-0 win over Canada. Leverkusen's Mailk Tillman also started for the USA in the friendly match in Saint Paul.
Another game, another record for Harry Kane. The 33-year led England out against Czechia on Tuesday, thereby earning him a record-equalling 125th international cap for the Three Lions, matching a national record set by former goalkeeper Peter Shilton. The Bayern forward marked the occasion with two goals in a 3-0 victory.
Augsburg midfielder Fabian Rieder paved the way for Switzerland's victory over North Macedonia in Lucerne, netting the first goal of the game in a 3-0 success that means Die Nati have now won all four of their Group B1 matches.
Having featured at right-back for England earlier in this international break, Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah played from start to finish in his more familiar position of centre-back against Czechia at Wembley, helping England to a 3-0 victory.
Ritsu Dōan scored the winner for Japan as they lifted the Kirin Cup, beating New Zealand 2-1 in the final. As captain, the Frankfurt winger also lifted the trophy following the match. Kaishu Sano, Hiroki Ito, Kento Shiogai and Satoshi Tanaka also featured throughout the encounter.
Kevin Diks and Indonesia teammates won the maiden edition of the ASEAN Cup. They faced Thailand in the final and, after the game ended 2-2 after extra-time, Indonesia prevailed 4-2 on penalties.
There were starts for both Willi Orbán and András Schäfer during Hungary's 2-1 win against Ukraine. The result leaves them second in their Nations League group behind Northern Ireland with two games left to play.
St. Pauli centre-back Eric Smith helped Sweden keep a clean sheet - their first of the international break - as they narrowly edged out Romania away from. Former Pauli striker Viktor Gyökeres netted the game's only goal.
Cologne's Luka Lochoshvili played the full 90 minutes, while Heidenheim's Budu Zivzivadze also started as Georgia drew with Northern Ireland. The result leaves them on just two points, with relegation to League C a real possibility.
Ermedin Demirović and Nikola Katić both started as Bosnia defeated Poland 1-0 to continue their unbeaten start to the Nations League campaign it what was their nation's first outing following Edin Džeko's emotional goodbye against Sweden last time out.
Michael Olise was introduced after 60 minutes of France's final game of the international break, with Les Bleus losing 1-0 to Belgium. By full-time, they had won convincingly 4-1, with Olise adding gloss to the scoreline with two goals in three minutes. He also provided the assist for Rayan Cherki's earlier strike.
Six Bundesliga-based players started for Austria as they scored a late equaliser to remain top of Group B3 after Hoffenheim's Fisnik Asllani had put Kosovo ahead three minutes following his introduction in the 67th minute. Club teammate Leon Avdullahu played the full game for the hosts.
RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa played 74 minutes and Hamburg's David Møller Wolfe the full game as Norway squandered a lead in Porto to lose 2-1 to Portugal and remain bottom of Group A4 in the Nations League. Ex-Bayern Munich defender João Cancelo levelled for the hosts, who maintain their perfect record in the section, while there were big concerns for Norway after Erling Haaland went off injured.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Joey Veerman played an hour as the Netherlands beat Serbia 2-1 in Eindhoven to go above Greece at the summit of Group A2. Ex-Bayern Munich man Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner.
Jürgen Klopp's men remain in third place in Group A2 of the Nations League on five points after a goalless draw in Greece, where Jonathan Burkardt had a strike ruled out but Jonas Urbig made it two clean sheets in as many senior caps.
On a good day for Leverkusen's internationals, Malik Tillman scored the third and final goal for the US Men's National Team against Mexico. The record for the youngest-ever US goalscorer, set by Dortmund's Mathis Albert just last week, was broken again by Cavan Sullivan.
Bayern Munich's star striker Harry Kane once again led England out as captain, as Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions thrashed Croatia 7-0 on the road in the UEFA Nations League. Kane himself opened the scoring inside eight minutes before adding another goal and an assist in the second half. Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah also played the full 90 minutes, helping his side to a clean sheet and even providing an assist via a sumptuous cross for England's third.
Hoffenheim's Adam Hložek (r.) teed up compatriot Jiří Sláma to score for Czechia against world champions Spain in Oviedo, but it was nothing more than a consolation in a 3-1 defeat in Nations League Group A3.
3 October: Jóhannesson stars as Iceland down Bulgaria
Cologne midfielder Ísak Jóhannesson spent the entirety of the 90 minutes at the heart of Iceland's midfield, as the Scandinavians cruised past Bulgaria 3-0 in the Nations League. Hertha man Jón Dagur Thorsteinsson also started, but was withdrawn after 62 minutes.
Leipzig's Willi Orbán and Union's András Schäfer both played the full 90 minutes as Hungary kept a clean sheet in a narrow 1-0 win over Georgia in their League B Group 2 UEFA Nations League encounter.
Another day, another outrageous moment of brilliance from Michael Olise. With the game goalless between France and Italy on UEFA Nations League Matchday 3, up stepped the Bayern winger to curl a vicious free-kick in off the crossbar to put Les Bleus in front. The game ultimately ended 1-1, with Olise's compatriot and Bayern team-mate Dayot Upamecano sent off late on.
Edin Džeko started for Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Nations League Group B4 assignment against Sweden in Zenica in what was his final game for his country. The Schalke forward thought he had opened the scoring, only for VAR to disallow the goal as the ball had gone out of play in the build-up. The 40-year-old was visibly emotional as he was substituted off in the 63rd minute of the 1-1 draw, bringing the curtain down on his time with the national team.
Serhou Guirassy scored the only goal of the game as Guinea edged past Kenya in the second qualification round for the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win.
Ko Itakura, Hiroki Ito, Kaishu Sano, Ritsu Dōan (pictured, r.) and Yuito Suzuki all started as Japan drew 0-0 with Ecuador in a friendly, although Japan did go on to beat them 5-4 on penalties.
Fisnik Asllani (pictured) played the full game as Kosovo played out a goalless draw with Israel, with midfielder Leon Avdullahu coming on for the final half hour.
Austria's 2-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland saw 10 Bundesliga representatives take to the field for them. Six of those were starters, including: Stefan Posch, Patrick Wimmer, Carney Chukwuemeka, Philipp Lienhart, Phillipp Mwene and Nicolas Seiwald. Konrad Laimer, Maximilian Wöber, Michael Gregoritsch and Alexander Prass all appeared off the bench.
Dortmund's Julian Ryerson was taken off just 17 minutes into Norway's fixture with Wales, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for his side. Leipzig's Antonio Nusa and Ørjan Nyland, and Hamburg's David Møller Wolfe also all featured for Norway.
Hoffenheim's Adam Daghim (pictured, middle) played the first-half of Denmark's 4-2 defeat to Portugal, while VfB Stuttgart's Nikolas Nartey also came on as a late substitute for them.
Kevin Diks captained Indonesia to a 9-2 win over Bangladesh to see his country advance into the final of the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup final, and he even got himself on the scoresheet in their huge win.
Konstantinos Karetsas (pictured, l.) and Joey Veerman both started as Greece and the Netherlands played out a 2-2 draw in Thessaloniki. Karetsas played 83 minutes while Veerman completed the full 90 and picked up an assist.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ezequiel Fernández came on as a substitute for Argentina in the 74th minute of their 4-0 win over Bolivia to earn his first full international cap.
Hannover defender Ime Okon played from start to finish as South Africa eased to a 5-0 win against Eritrea in AFCON qualifying Group D, leaving them top of the section with six points from two games.
St. Pauli midfielder Connor Metcalfe put Australia 2-1 up against Brazil with a composed finished from the edge of the penalty area. Brazil went on to win the friendly in Brisbane 4-2, however.
Mikey Moore, a 19-year-old attacking talent on loan to Cologne from Tottenham, scored on both of his first two appearances for England U20 during the international break - in a 3-1 win over Italy and then a 2-1 success against France on Tuesday. Next up for England U20 are Germany U20 on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund's 17-year-old American winger became the youngest goalscorer in US Men's National Team history with a stoppage time goal in a 4-2 friendly win over Chile in St Louis.
Die Nati consolidated top spot in Nations League Group B1 with six points from a possible six thanks to a 3-0 success over Scotland in Glasgow. Gregor Kobel (Dortmund) and Michel Aebischer (Union Berlin, pictured, l.) both started at Hampden Park, while Fabian Rieder (Augsburg) came off the bench in the 62nd minute.

The Bayern forward struck in the 69th minute, and was substituted off one minute later. Hoffenheim duo Adam Hložek and Robin Hranáč both started for the hosts, who have lost both of their Nations League Group A3 games so far.
Bayern’s Ismael Saibari (pictured), Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss and Hamburg’s Zakaria El Ouahdi all started for Morocco in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying against Lesotho. The 2-0 win leaves the Atlas Lions top of Group A with a maximum six points from two games.
Cologne’s Gideon Mensah (pictured) and Wolfsburg’s Jonas Adjetey both started in defence for Ghana at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. However, even though the Black Stars were 2-0 up after 33 minutes, they ultimately slipped to a 4-2 defeat that leaves them bottom of AFCON qualifying Group C after two games.

With the scores at 0-0, Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise came off the bench in the 77th minute of France's UEFA Nations League clash away to Belgium to net a late winner for Les Bleus just 11 minutes later.
Bayern Munich's Minjae Kim (pictured), Mainz's Jaesung Lee and Schalke's Hee Chan Hwang were on the receiving end of a 4-1 friendly defeat at home to Uruguay, with the Bayern defender contributing the South American side's third via an own-goal.
A four-strong Bundesliga contingent consisting of Keisuke Gotō (Freiburg, pictured), Satoshi Tanaka (Schalke), Ritsu Dōan (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Hiroki Ito (Bayern Munich) all featured for Japan as the Samurai Blues edged past a resilient Venezuela outfit 2-1 in a friendly encounter.
Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson (pictured) played the full 90 minutes as Sweden made it two wins from two in their Nations League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Poland. Wolfsburg's Alexander Bernhardsson also featured off the bench for the hosts, whilst Magdeburg striker Mateusz Zukowski was unable to find the net for Poland.
Schalke defender Nikola Katić played the full 90 minutes for Bosnia and Herzegovina as they downed Romania 4-2 on the road. Stuttgart's Ermedin Demirović also made an appearance from off the bench, whilst former Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Haris Tabaković and former Kiel midfielder Armin Gigović got themselves on the scoresheet.
28 September: Turkish Bundesliga duo suffer defeat to Italy

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Joey Veerman - one of two alterations made by new Netherlands coach Xavi to the starting XI that drew with Germany - played the full 90 minutes for the Oranje in Serbia, impressing with his strong tackling and all-round performance.
Three Bundesliga stars were in action for Norway in their 2-1 defeat by Portugal in Oslo: Ørjan Nyland and Antonio Nusa (both RB Leipzig), as well as Dortmund's Julian Ryerson. It was a night to forget for Nyland, whose error led to Gonçalo Ramos' winner, and Ryerson, who had to come off injured in the second half.
Schalke's Junior Adamu and Dortmund's Carney Chukwuemeka, who came off the bench in the 58th minute, scored the second and third goals of Austria's 3-1 win over Kosovo at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna. Mainz's Kacper Potulski came up against Ermedin Demirović (Stuttgart) and Nikola Katić (Schalke) as Poland and Bosnia & Herzegovina played out a goalless draw on Friday.
Hungarian duo András Schäfer and Willi Orbán, of Union Berlin and RB Leipzig respectively, could not prevent their team from falling to a narrow 1-0 loss in the Nations League on Friday.

Mohamed Ali Zoma came off the bench to make his senior Italy debut but it was a bittersweet evening for the Nuremberg attacker, as the Azzurri slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Belgium in Rome in Nations League Group A1.

Hamburg midfielder Albert Grønbæk has left Denmark's training camp early after suffering a thigh injury during the UEFA Nations League match against Norway. The 25-year-old is now set to return to HSV for assessment.
25 September: Wirtz and Burkardt replace injured stars
Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala and former Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz sustained injuries ahead of and during Germany's UEFA Nations League clash against the Netherlands. As a result, Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jonathan Burkardt and Liverpool's Florian Wirtz have been drafted into Jürgen Klopp's squad for the clash with Greece on Sunday.
Hoffenheim’s Albian Hajdari and Leon Avdullahu started as Kosovo beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Pristina. Club teammate Fisnik Asllani joined the action late on, as did Bayern Munich’s Erblin Osmani. Vedat Muriqi supplied the decisive goal to secure a winning start to Kosovo’s Nations League campaign.
A whole host of Bundesliga stars were in action as Austria beat Israel 3-1, with Mainz's Phillipp Mwene scoring Austria's second on the night to give his side the lead in the 90th minute.
RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa turned provider for ex-Dortmund striker Erling Haaland as Norway went on to beat Denmark 3-2. However, the night wasn't as successful for Hamburg's David Møller Wolfe, who was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.
Borussia Dortmund's Konstantinos Karetsas played 74 minutes as Germany's other two Nations League opponents faced off. Although Serbia had taken the lead in Belgrade, Greece fought back to win the game at the death.
24 September: Klopp's Germany draw with the Netherlands
A host of Bundesliga stars were in action as Germany drew 1-1 with the Netherlands in Klopp's first game as head coach, including goalscorer Felix Nmecha. Klopp also oversaw three Germany debuts, including Freiburg's Philipp Treu and Yannik Engelhardt and Eintracht Frankfurt's Younes Ebnoutalib. Unfortunately, Bayern's Jamal Musiala withdrew from the starting XI shortly before kick-off with an injury. Borussia Dortmund's Joey Veerman came off the bench to represent the Dutch.

Dortmund are two points clear of defending champions Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table, after winning their first four league games of 2026/27. Maximilian Beier scored the winner at Stuttgart this past weekend, reminding Klopp that he could still have a role to play for the national team after missing out on the squad.

Watch: Klopp on first Germany squad
Jürgen Klopp has selected two different squads for his first four fixtures in charge of Germany against the Netherlands, Greece and Serbia in the UEFA Nations League. Younes Ebnoutalib of Eintracht Frankfurt and Elversberg's Felix Keidel are among 16 uncapped players included in the 44-man squad.
