Germany international playmaker Nadiem Amiri commits future to Mainz

Mainz's star Germany international Nadiem Amiri has told a meeting of the club's fans that he plans to stay despite attracting interest from other sides.

Amiri told a fan evening during Mainz's pre-season training camp in Austria: "I have decided with my family to stay at the club."

The 29-year-old former Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder added: "There have been lots of reports about me in recent weeks, lots of rumours and offers."

The pledge to stay at Mainz was naturally met with great approval from the fans present, as well as from team-mate Phillip Tietz, who shared the stage with Amiri at the event.

All Amiri's Mainz assists

Amiri scored 12 goals and provided two assists to help Mainz finish the 2025/26 season in tenth, 11 points clear of the relegation play-off spot.

His strong club form saw him make several appearances for Germany over the last campaign and earn a call-up to Julian Nagelsmann's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Amiri made two appearances at the tournament to take his number of caps to 13, and provided a vital assist for VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav for Germany to equalise against Côte d'Ivoire in a Group E encounter they would go on to win 2-1.

Mainz open their new Bundesliga campaign at home to newly promoted Paderborn on 29 August (kick-off 3.30pm CEST).
