Bayern Munich end their tour of Asia with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa

Bayern Munich stepped up their preparations for the 2026/27 season with a 2-1 win over last season's UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa in Hong Kong, the final stop of their summer tour in Asia.

Bayern ended their tour of Asia with an assured win over Europa League champions Aston Villa thank to goals from Minjae Kim and Luis Díaz. 

Vincent Kompany's men dominated the first half, pinning Villa back into their own half and causing problems down either flank thanks to the youthful exuberance of both Maycon Cardozo and Tim Binder. They could have had a healthier lead going into the break than their slender one-goal advantage, but were nevertheless the better side in the first 45.

Villa made things more difficult in the second half, enjoying more possession and making Bayern work defensively. Díaz's brilliant individual goal gave Bayern some breathing space, before a late wave of pressure for Villa ended with João Gomes bending a superb strike past Manuel Neuer with just minutes to spare. Bayern held on, however, and return to Germany with another win under their belt.

Despite a strong second half showing from Villa, Bayern held on to secure a 2-1 win. A flurry of substitutions from both sides naturally altered the flow of the game late on, but it didn't stop Bayern from increasing their lead. Individual brilliance from Díaz saw them double their lead, before a late wave of pressure saw Villa get back into the game via Gomes' fine strike. Kompany's side held on though, ending their tour of Asia with a win.

A cut back finds Gomes on the edge of the area in a central position, where he takes a touch before guiding his effort into the far top corner. Brilliant goal!

An energetic first 45 ends with Bayern taking a one-goal lead into half-time, after a strong showing against a spirited Aston Villa side. Villa did enjoy a spell of possession of their own, but couldn't test Neuer in the Bayern goal.

Aston Villa's pre-season so far

Unai Emery's team have won three of their five friendlies so far. A 5-0 victory over Walsall was followed by defeats against Porto (2-1) and Real Sociedad (4-2), but they have since recorded back-to-back 3-1 wins over Indonesia All-Stars and BG Pathum United.

Bayern's pre-season so far

After losing 2-1 to Wehen Wiesbaden and putting 15 past Bavarian minnows Rottach-Egern, Bayern jetted off to the Far East for their 10th Audi Summer Tour. They beat Jeju SK 2-1 in South Korea in their first friendly of the trip, but Aston Villa are likely to provide a somewhat sterner test.
