Reyna became a key figure in Dortmund’s team this season, with the teenager featuring in the vast majority of games. After opening his Bundesliga goals account on Matchday 1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach, he made history as the first 17-year-old to get three assists in a German top-flight game on Matchday 3 against Freiburg. The attacking midfielder achieved a total of four goals and five assists in the league in 2020/21.

Reyna came off the bench for the final ten minutes of Dortmund's 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on the final day of the season and was on the pitch to celebrate impressive achievements in what was a breakthrough campaign.

2020/21 in review

Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt said before the season he couldn't "imagine a starting XI that doesn't include Josh Sargent," and he was true to his word. The Missouri native started 30 of Werder’s 34 Bundesliga fixtures in 2020/21, with two substitute appearances and one missed through injury and suspension respectively. Five goals and two assists only partially show the 21-year-old's importance to the Bremen team, with his 771 sprints the most, and his 335 challenges won the second best of any player at the club this term.

Last matchday

Sargent was in the starting lineup on the final day of the season, but unfortunately his efforts for over an hour could not prevent Bremen falling to a 4-2 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach, sealing the club's relegation to Bundesliga 2.

Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann showed real trust in Adams this season, particularly his ability to perform in a number of positions. The New York state native featured at right-back, the right of a back three, on the right wing and in central midfield across his 27 league appearances, of which 21 have been starts and 12 saw him complete the 90 minutes. The 22-year-old also scored one goal and picked up one assist, achieved a top speed of 21.3 mph and clocked up up a team-high 668 sprints.

Brooks featured in 31 of Wolfsburg's 34 Bundesliga matches this season, forming a formidable defensive partnership with Maxence Lacroix. The Berlin-born centre-back is in the league’s top three for aerial duels won (134), while his pass completion rate (87.5 percent) is the third-best for Wolfsburg. He scored two goals this season, in wins over Bremen and Freiburg, but he did also put it into his own net in the Werder game.

Brooks played 57 minutes of Wolfsburg's final-day loss to Mainz.

It was a big year for Richards, who crowned his first Bundesliga start with an assist for Robert Lewandowski in a 4-3 win over Hertha before earning his first senior cap for the USA in November against Panama. The versatile defender played in three league games for the Bayern first team, as well as eight for the reserves in the 3. Liga (a title he also won in 2019/20), prior to a January loan move to Hoffenheim in search of more regular senior action. Richards provided one assist during his 11 starts for TSG.

Matthew Hoppe

Club: Schalke
Position: Striker
Age: 20
Bundesliga games this season: 21
Starts: 14

2020/21 in review

Hoppe was a shining light in a dark season for Schalke. Beginning the campaign with the reserves, he was handed his senior debut from the start on Matchday 9 away at Gladbach. He then became the first American to score a Bundesliga hat-trick as the Royal Blues beat Hoffenheim 4-0 on Matchday 15 – one of just three league victories this season. That was followed with a goal in each of the next two games against Eintracht Frankfurt and Cologne. The Californian is Schalke's top scorer for the season, with 6 goals and one assist.

Last matchday

Hoppe was unable to end his breakout campaign on a high note as Schalke were beaten 1-0 by Cologne on the final matchday.

The 29-time USMNT international found it tough to break into the Frankfurt team this season, making 12 appearances from the bench and three starts. The 2017/18 DFB Cup winner proved himself a versatile element capable of playing at wing/full-back on either side and has played in a total of 230 Bundesliga games over his career with Nürnberg and Eintracht.

Chandler continued his late-season resurgence, making his second start in a row as Frankfurt ran out 3-1 winners over Freiburg on the final day.
