Heidenheim relegated from the Bundesliga after three-year stay
Heidenheim have been relegated to Bundesliga 2 following their 2-0 defeat against Mainz on Matchday 34, putting an end to their three-year stay in Germany's top flight.
Frank Schmidt's side have spent much of the campaign in the bottom two, winning only six of their 34 league games in 2025/26.
Despite losing only two of their final eight matches, a run which included a remarkable 3-3 draw at champions Bayern Munich, Schmidt's men were unable to keep their heads afloat for a third season running.
Saturday's result - Heidenheim's 20th league defeat of the campaign confirmed their demotion to the second tier.

The German minnows, though, will certainly look back on their time in the Bundesliga with great fondness.
A cult hero at the club and beyond, having been at the helm since 2007, Schmidt guided Heidenheim from the sixth tier to the UEFA Conference League after securing an eighth-place finish in their maiden top-flight campaign.
Schmidt then sealed another season in the Bundesliga after masterminding victory over Elversberg in the play-off last campaign, but they now return to Bundesliga 2 for 2026/27.
