Full-time: Augsburg 0-1 Borussia Dortmund

The game ends in a narrow win for Dortmund, who move up to second, at least temporarily. It was a game of very few chances, but Serhou Guirassy took one of the few that materialised to give his side all three points.

Shot

A late effort for Augsburg, as Banks fires towards goal. It is straight at Kobel, though, and is ultimately a comfortable save.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Augsburg have had better openings as per xGoals, but they are still trailing.

A booking for Tietz just seconds after coming on. He is one of two new strikers who have been introduced as Wagner goes in search of an equaliser.

10 minutes remaining

Still time for Augsburg to get something out of this one.

Huge tackle

Bellingham makes a mistake to lose possession, but recovers to make a huge tackle and stop Rexhbecaj from shooting towards goal. Dortmund still just ahead, but Augsburg are starting to threaten a little more.

BVB more threatening

Augsburg are hardly under significant pressure, but Dortmund have looked the more likely to score the game's next goal if there is one.

Too high

Dortmund are certainly firing off more shots now. Chukwuemeka is the next to fire off an attempt, yet like Brandt's, it doesn't cause any problems for Dahmen.

Not far over

Brandt tries to curl into the top corner from about 25 yards. He isn't quite able to direct it on target, but it was well-hit by tonight's Dortmund captain.

Starting positive

Augsburg are showing plenty of energy at the start of this second half. Whether it translates into anything more substantial remains to be seen.

Half-time: Augsburg 0-1 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund have a narrow lead at the break! The opening 45 minutes were cagey, with chances at a real premium. However, the only shot on target resulted in the opening goal, as Serhou Guirassy pounced on an Augsburg mistake to slot into the corner. It is still all to play for after the interval you feel, though.

Dortmund have not created much more than Augsburg, but that one chance for the opener is the difference at the moment.

Chance

An opportunity for Dortmund to double their lead as a corner finds Anton unmarked in the box, but he can't keep the ball under control and Augsburg are able to clear.

Do Augsburg have a response?

The hosts have shown discipline so far, but one mistake and they have been punished. Augsburg have not scored in their past two games - can they change that tonight to get back on level terms?

Dortmund in front!

The first shot on target brings us the first goal! Matsima's clearance hammers off Massengo and into the path of Guirassy, who slots into the corner despite Dahmen's best efforts. The visitors have the advantage in a game of few chances.

Augsburg team news

Meanwhile, Wagner makes seven changes to his side from the 1-0 loss against Bochum. Kristjan Jakić, the stand-in captain for usual skipper Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, drops to the bench in place of Keven Schlotterbeck. As such, the returning Finn Dahmen wears the armband for the evening. Elsewhere, Cédric Zesiger, Anton Kade, Marius Wolf, Ismaël Gharbi and Phillip Tietz make way for Noahkai Banks, Han-Noah Massengo, Dimitrios Giannoulis, Alexis Claude-Maurice and Mert Kömür.

Dortmund team news

Following Tuesday's penalty shoot-out victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, Kovač makes six changes to the side. Nico Schlotterbeck's removal from the starting XI is forced due to illness, with Ramy Bensebaini taking his place. Meanwhile, Daniel Svensson, Jobe Bellingham, Marcel Sabitzer, Julian Ryerson and Karim Adeyemi all drop to the bench, with Yan Couto, Felix Nmecha, Pascal Groß, Carney Chukwuemeka and Serhou Guirassy replacing them.

Can back in the fold

In more positive news for the visitors, captain Emre Can has made the trip to Augsburg. The 31-year-old has been sidelined for nearly five months with a troublesome groin problem and was only expected to return after the international break in November, but could make an appearance at the WWK Arena tonight.
camera-photo

Schlotterbeck rested

Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck will miss tonight's trip to Augsburg, according to regional paper Ruhr Nachrichten. The 25-year-old, who is reportedly suffering from a cold, is being rested by head coach Niko Kovač after playing every minute of Borussia's last five Bundesliga games, not to mention 120 minutes in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.

Sandro Wagner on facing Dortmund

"BVB are one of the biggest clubs in the country. It's a really tough task, but a cool one too. We want to pull the momentum back on our side. Nothing is handed to you on a plate in the Bundesliga. We have to work our way back together."
camera-photo

Niko Kovač on facing Augsburg

"We're not overestimating the situation in Augsburg. It certainly won't be easy for us; every Bundesliga game is difficult. We're focusing on ourselves and want to play our game."

Augsburg do score goals

Despite the league positions of the two teams, Dortmund have only scored two more goals than Augsburg, 14 and 12, respectively. Additionally, Augsburg's defeat against Leipzig was the first time they had failed to score in the Bundesliga this season.

A series of unwanted records

Augsburg's 6-0 defeat against Leipzig was only the second time in Bundesliga history that they had conceded more than four goals in a home game. Friday's hosts have also already lost five of their first eight games - a joint club record. They also have the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga so far this season, conceding 20 goals and should they concede two or more on Friday, then it will be the club's worst defensive record ever after nine Bundesliga games.

Augsburg out

The Bavarians' miserable week continued as they followed the weekend's 6-0 loss at home to Leipzig with a 1-0 defeat to Bundesliga 2 strugglers Bochum to end their cup run. Can they finally turn things around at the WWK Arena against Dortmund?
camera-photo

Dortmund edge through

It's a quick turnaround for both teams after Tuesday's DFB Cup action. BVB needed extra-time and penalties to get past Eintracht Frankfurt after their game finished at 1-1 after 120 minutes. The Black and Yellows eventually won 4-2 in the shootout.

One sided... Or is it?

Augsburg have won only five of their 28 Bundesliga meetings with Dortmund but did actually do the double over BVB last season, winning 2-1 at home and 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park.
