Full-time: Dortmund 6-0 Union

It was a cruise for the home side in the end, with Serhou Guirassy netting four times and Pascal Groß providing as many assists as Niko Kovač celebrated his first Bundesliga win at the Dortmund helm. The night started with Diogo Leite putting through his own net and ended with Maxi Beier completing the scoring against a Union side who head back to the capital badly bruised.

Dortmund in dreamland

Had Guirassy not scored four, Pascal Groß would have been the man of the match here. The 33-year-old has his fourth assist of the contest with a cross from the right this time that finds Beier bending to head past Rønnow. Scenes.

Good night, Union

Dortmund are home free. Guirassy has a second and Niko Kovač is eyeing a first Bundesliga win in charge. Shortly after Adeyemi hit a post, BVB came again and had a Guirassy shot blocked. Union subsequently failed to clear their lines, allowing Groß to free Borussia's No. 9, who slammed home high at the near post.

Reyna worry

The American slips and goes into his opponent, who drops to the turf. Reyna has already been booked and walks towards the referee, who wants a word. It's just a warning for the USMNT international.

Half-time: Dortmund 2-0 Union

Despite a slow start, the Black-and-Yellows built towards a comfortable lead in this game thanks to a Diogo Leite o.g. and Serhou Guirassy's 10th Bundesliga goal of the season. Union provided some bright moments in the opening 45', but Steffen Baumgart's men have it all to do after the break.

Last word to Niko Kovač

"We have to stand up to (Union). We're playing at home and must clearly show that we want to win the game." Dortmund's coach takes his place on the bench as we wait the referee's whistle to get this crucial encounter underway.
camera-photo

"We're ready"

In the lead into this game, visiting coach Steffen Baumgart said, "We know it's going to be tough, but we're ready for that." His Union side are now just minutes away from kick-off amid a daunting atmosphere inside the Signal Iduna Park.

The stakes

Dortmund come into this game in 12th place and, in terms of points, are closer to Hoffenheim in 15th (eight points) than they are to Freiburg, who are currently in fourth (10 points). As such, only a win will do really if they are to mount a serious charge up the table and qualify for Europe. Union, meanwhile, are only five points behind BVB so could pull further clear of relegation danger with victory here.

Three changes for Dortmund

Niko Kovač has brought in three new faces following the goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League during the week. Bensebaini replaces Svensson at left-back, Reyna comes into attacking midfield for Brandt, who misses out with a muscular injury, and Beier starts in place of Gittens.

More on those teams

Union coach Steffen Baumgart has made three changes to his team following last week's 2-1 home defeat by Gladbach. Rothe replaces Skov at left-back, Tousart comes in for Haberer in central midfield, and Schäfer takes Skarke's place in attack.
camera-photo

Atmosphere building

Dortmund's famous Yellow Wall, the standing-only south stand, is already rocking ahead of kick-off.

BVB to face Lille

Niko Kovac's side will face Lille in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, having beaten Sporting Lisbon in the play-off phase. Lille have already recorded impressive victories against Real Madrid (1-0), Atletico Madrid (3-1) and Feyenoord (6-1) so far this tournament.
camera-photo

Steffen Baumgart on facing Dortmund

"We'll need to capitalise on any mistakes the opposition make. That's the approach. We must take our chances when they come. We know it's going to be tough, but we're ready for that. It'll be an interesting game."
camera-photo

Niko Kovač on facing Union

"We're at home and we find ourselves in a tight spot. We have to win this match and we know that. We don't just need these three points to maybe climb a little or to sneak up on the table. We need the three points for ourselves, for self-confidence, to be able to win games again. We expect to face a team that is very aggressive, that will challenge us from the first to the last minute. We have to fight back."

Home comforts

Dortmund have won all five league meetings at home to Union, who themselves ended a six-game losing run on the road with a 4-0 win at Hoffenheim a fortnight ago.
