The stakes

Dortmund come into this game in 12th place and, in terms of points, are closer to Hoffenheim in 15th (eight points) than they are to Freiburg, who are currently in fourth (10 points). As such, only a win will do really if they are to mount a serious charge up the table and qualify for Europe. Union, meanwhile, are only five points behind BVB so could pull further clear of relegation danger with victory here.

Niko Kovač has brought in three new faces following the goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League during the week.
