After switching to a back three last week against Bayern Munich, Steffen Baumgart looks to have reverted to a four with just one change as Dominique Heintz comes in for Rasmus Carstensen, who isn’t involved after hurting his arm in training.

Torsten Lieberknecht makes two injury-enforced changes to the team that started last week’s 1-1 draw at Freiburg. Christoph Zimmermann is replaced in the back three by Christoph Klarer, while Matthias Bader has a hip issue, so there’s a reshuffle in midfield. Klaus Gjasula comes in, meaning Fabian Nürnberger moves over to the right and Fabian Holland shifts out left.

Baumgart's view on Darmstadt

"Darmstadt will be a very tough game where it comes down to little things. They've been far more solid in the last three games in terms of defensive work. I don't think there will be many chances for either side, so it'll be about taking them. There's a relegation battle between six or seven teams. It'll remain tight down there. In the end, it's about who has the points needed after 34 games to stay up. It'll remain a very tight race for a long time."

Lieberknecht's view on Cologne

"Cologne see the games against us and then Mainz as the matches where they need to start their turnaround. We'll see an intense game tomorrow, which the fans can look forward to. Things will be heated out there. Cologne see us as equals. We see Cologne as a Bundesliga club that's made its mark on the Bundesliga in recent years. I'm expecting Cologne to look to get forward and press high."
