Full-time: Hannover 3-1 Magdeburg

Hannover make it three wins from three with a 3-1 victory over Magdeburg – and overall, that's a fair result. The hosts were better from the start and deservedly went 2-0 up before half-time. Magdeburg had several good spells and some clear-cut chances, but could only convert one – from a rebounded penalty. Källman put it all to bed in added time.

Almost the fourth!

Källman again! Free in front of Reimann, this time he wants to slot the ball in on the right, but the Magdeburg keeper prevents it with a strong save with his foot!

Goal? Offside? Goal!

Substitute Källman receives the ball low from Rochelt on the left and slots it in from a central position. After a brief offside check, the goal stands. That should be that!

A delicate cross from Atik is cleared by Hannover with a header out of the danger zone.

Rochelt!

The left winger bursts into the box with pace and cheekily tries a shot from a tight angle, but Reimann is there with his foot to make the save!

Plenty of added time

A full six minutes of stoppage time. Enough time for Magdeburg to snatch a point?

Michel receives the ball at the right corner of the penalty area, but fails to hit the target as he leans back slightly.

Another substitution

Ghiță, who has put in a lot of effort, leaves the pitch to applause. Blank comes on for the final minutes.
83'

Space for Atik!

The attacker drives the ball forward on the left and cuts inside, but can't get a shot away. So he lays it off to Michel, who shoots directly, but is blocked by a Hannover leg.
80'

Super-sub collaboration

Magdeburg are keeping the ball, now Hannover get some relief. The hosts combine strongly through the penalty area, Taibi slips a low pass through to Källman. He shoots from a half-right position and narrowly misses!

Substitutions on both sides

Both teams make a double substitution. We're heading into the final quarter of an hour and the points are still up for grabs!
74'

Almost dangerous!

A back pass to Noll is a bit too short, which Kaars recognises quickly, but the 96ers' goalkeeper even quicker. He gets to the ball before the Dutchman and clears the situation. Very alert!

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The teams are now neck and neck in terms of xG. Magdeburg have even had one more shot on goal than Hannover (six to five).

First goal conceded for 96

Hannover's clean sheet in league games lasted for over four hours (242 minutes). They're the last team to concede a goal this season.

Kaars through on goal!

Huge chance for the equaliser, but he has too much time to think and smashes the ball metres over Noll's goal.
65'

Kaars again

Second goal of the season and 14th goal in the calendar year for the Dutchman – no other player has scored that many in Bundesliga 2 in 2025!
camera-photo

Missed! Rebound! Goooal!

Kaars takes a deep breath, runs up, and Noll saves the low shot towards the left corner. But the ball drops back to Kaars, who doesn't need a second invitation and calmly slots it into the right side. Magdeburg are back in it!

Penalty for Magdeburg!

Musonda wants to chip the ball inside from the right edge of the penalty area, with Okon unintentionally handling the ball with his arm. Since his arm was outstretched, Hempel points to the spot!

Another booked

Mathisen catches Pichler on the foot, who subsequently requires treatment. However, it seems the 96er can continue for now.
58'

Bundu departs

The right winger caused a great deal of danger - that has cost energy. After about an hour, Yokota replaces him.
56'

Another booking

Leopold tackles Ulrich from behind in midfield, earning a yellow from Hempel as well.
55'

Double Magdeburg switch

Time is slowly running out for the visitors. Apart from Ghrieb's shot against the post, they have created too little in the second half considering the score.
54'

Hit in the face

Musonda catches Hannover keeper Noll, who wants to pick up the ball rolling towards him, in the face with his foot.
53'

Woodwork at the other end too!

Immediately on the counter-attack, Ghrieb curls the ball onto the left post after cutting in from the right to the centre.

Crossbar!

The ball is played in from the right into the penalty area, where Bundu attempts an acrobatic shot, but only hits the crossbar. Reimann was beaten in the Magdeburg goal.
48'

Better than expected?

The hosts are putting in a tremendous performance so far, which may not have been expected before kick-off. At that point, Hannover's probability of winning was only 48 percent, but now it's at 93!
47'

Bundu!

The man from Sierra Leone has started well, just like at the beginning of the first half, trying a shot from the right edge of the penalty area immediately after the restart, but the ball curves away from the Magdeburg goal and doesn't pose any significant danger.

Half-time: Hannover 2-0 Magdeburg

With an xGoals value of 1.9 (to 0.88), the 96ers go into the half-time break with a two-goal lead, which is quite deserved. They've clearly set the tone from the beginning, while Magdeburg only managed to threaten the hosts' goal with small but dangerous counter-attacks. However, the visitors shouldn't be written off too early.

The ball's rolled back to Neubauer a good 25 yards out. He opts to have a crack from left of centre. His shot takes a slight deflection and clips the side netting.

Nkili steps on Ulrich's left foot from behind. Yellow card for the ex-Bayern man.

Balanced

Even though the home side appeared more active - especially in the early stages - both teams have now had four shots on goal. An equaliser would not be undeserved given Magdeburg's good efforts.

Same story

Hannover also get awarded a free-kick from a good position. Bundu is the man to take, but it's blocked by the jumping Magdeburg defence.
30'

Good free-kick position

Finally - from Magdeburg's perspective - the visitors find themselves in the opposition half again. Once there, Atik catches Bundu's foot on the heel, which referee Hempel penalises. Mathisen places the ball about 20 metres out in a half-left position and tries a direct shot - no problem for Noll.

Even after taking the lead, Hannover aren't letting up. Now Pichler is set up and shoots from the edge of the penalty area, but his effort is blocked by several Magdeburg legs.

The Matsuda surprise

For many years, Sei Muroya worked the right flank for Hannover – he's gone now, and his compatriot Hayate Matsuda is the discovery of pre-season. Matsuda was relegated from the third division with the U23s last term, but instead of going down a level, he went up one!
24'

Attacking foul

The lively Bundu leaves Hugonet in a spin at the right edge of the penalty area, but according to the referee, he's holding the opponent's shirt too much, causing him to fall. A promising situation comes to nothing.

Hannover lead!

Magdeburg had pushed up again, giving the home side plenty of space in midfield. Pichler drives the ball forward, plays a brilliant through ball to Aseko, who shoots from a half-right position as he's falling. Reimann dives but can only parry the ball forward, where Matsuda comes rushing in and pushes it over the line from seven metres out.

Should be the opener!

Ulrich holds onto the ball in midfield, passes it to the right to Ghrieb, who bends it into the six-yard box at pace. Kaars is lurking at the far post and gets a free header but somehow misses the target!
13'

First shot on goal

Bundu cuts inside from the right in the penalty area and tests Reimann with a powerful shot. No real issues, though.
10'

Next shot

Magdeburg move out of their own half for the first time, but lose the ball just beyond the halfway line. The hosts try to move quickly given the amount of space, but Bundu's shot comes perhaps a bit too early and goes over the bar.
8'

First move

The home side are clearly having the better start here, looking more active and having more possession. Only the clear drive towards goal is still missing. Now Matsuda tries from outside the box, but the ball rolls a few metres wide of Reimann's right post.
5'

Lines fluffed

A low cross from the left initially finds no taker, but the ball eventually falls to Pichler's feet, who wants to shoot first time from a central position, but misses the ball.
3'

Bundu again!

The right winger gets into the penalty area and is prevented from shooting by Gnaka. Brief protests from the home side quickly subside. It was not enough for a penalty.
2'

Too aggressive

The 96ers win the ball high up the pitch through Bundu, but referee Hempel blows his whistle to call back the charging attacking players due to a foul.

Kick-off!

Seconds until kick-off

Both teams form a huddle, the action is about to begin!

Gnaka approaching milestone

The Ivorian is playing his 100th match in Bundesliga 2, all of which have come for Magdeburg. He is only the second player for the club to reach this milestone, with only captain Reimann (101) making more appearances for them in Bundesliga 2.

Double scorer starts

Compared to the cup success in Saarbrücken, Mathisen and Ulrich are back in the starting line-up for Magdeburg, replacing Müller and Michel. Cup double scorer Ghrieb retains his place and makes his first start in Bundesliga 2. Compared to the last league match (victory in Dresden), Ghrieb replacing Nollenberger is the only change.

Hannover without Chakroun

Christian Titz makes only one change to his starting XI against his former club as Chakroun misses out and Rochelt comes in. He started in the cup last weekend replacing Bundu, who is back in the fold today.

Oudenne extends contract at Hannover

Kolja Oudenne has extended his contract with Hannover until 2028. The 23-year-old has been playing for the club since 2023.

Magdeburg coach Fiedler on Hannover

"It's going to be a difficult game. We're facing an opponent who have bolstered their ranks with several new signings. We'll need to be at our best against Hannover. We're confident that we're well-prepared for Saturday's game."

Hannover coach Titz on Magdeburg

"I expect to face a strong side who pose a threat in one-v-one situations. Magdeburg have several talented, interesting attacking players who are capable of deciding matches with their qualities."

Titz reunited with his former club

Christian Titz took over Magdeburg in February 2021 when they were battling relegation in the third division. He saved them from the drop before securing promotion a year later. Afterwards, he successfully established them in Bundesliga 2, even competing for promotion last season, where they finished fifth.

The bogey team

In Bundesliga 2, Magdeburg have lost against Hannover more than any other team. Their only victory against the 96ers took place in February 2023, when they won 2-1 in Hannover with a man advantage.

Hannover's hot streak

In the last four matches, Hannover have collected 10 points and kept three consecutive clean sheets against Magdeburg.

Advantage Hannover?

All six matches between Hannover and Magdeburg have taken place in Bundesliga 2, with the hosts dominating the head-to-head record having won four, drawn one and lost just one of their recent battles.
