Mainz finally off the mark

After taking one point from their first three league assignments of 2025/26, Mainz snapped the winless streak with a 4-1 victory away to Augsburg. The 05ers have also negotiated a UEFA Europa League play-off tie with Rosenborg and, like Dortmund, are through to the DFB Cup second round.

BVB on the prowl

Dortmund are Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich's closest pursuers going into Matchday 5. Victory over Wolfsburg was BVB's third in four league matches this season, while the only blot to the copybook was a 3-3 draw at St. Pauli on the opening weekend. Borussia also dropped points from a winning position in a wild 4-4 draw at Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.
