Full-time: Stuttgart 1-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Stuttgart scrape a narrow victory against Gladbach, who proved to be difficult customers this afternoon. Despite their best efforts in the second half, the visitors couldn't find a way through, with Stöger squandering the best chance of the game before the winning goal. It was substitute Chema Andrés who nodded home the winner for Stuttgart, getting a crucial first Bundesliga goal at exactly the right time.

Gladbach have been the better of the two sides in this half, even if only by a small margin, and can feel hard done by with that late goal.

Goal! Stuttgart lead!

A short corner is eventually whipped into the box by Leweling, who finds the head of the young substitute, Andrés. His header finds the bottom corner of the Gladbach net, giving Stuttgart a precious late lead.

Início da partida!

Half-time: Stuttgart 0-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Despite the lack of goals, there's been a good tempo to this half, with both sides showing they're capable of creating chances. Stuttgart looked the brighter side early on, with Leweling and Tomás looking good for the hosts so far, but the away side caused problems of their own once they settled into the game. The hosts will, however, be disappointed by the early loss of Undav to an unfortunate injury.

Very even

There's not been too much to separate the sides as of yet, both have looked bright in attack without creating too many clear chances, and they've both looked good on the ball too.

Scally a problem

Reitz's pass sees Scally go eye-to-eye with Nübel from a very tight angle near the right-hand side byline, and with few options available, he fires directly at the 'keeper.

Mixed half

Stuttgart have had much more of the ball, but the away side have looked increasingly threatening as the half has gone on.

Scally searches for a way through

The US right-back tries to burst past Mittelstädt, and then clips him in trying to protect the ball, giving away a free-kick.

Sander goes close

The subsequent free-kick after a foul from Mittelstädt is floated into the box from quite some distance, and it finds the un-tracked run of Sander, whose looping header almost catches Nübel out.

Ullrich had time!

Honorat plays in Scally on the right side of the box, who then crosses from the byline. His cross evades those in the centre, rolling to the far side of the box where Ullrich is waiting, but he can't get enough bend on his finish and puts it wide.

Watch: The best of Nick Woltemade

Stuttgart will miss this...

Auf Wiedersehen, pet!

One player who definitely won't be involved for VfB today is Nick Woltemade. His move to Newcastle has just been confirmed, with the Germany international saying farewell after one highly-impressive season in Stuttgart.

Sebastian Hoeneß on facing Gladbach

"We want to be intense when we play at home, but of course we need to be smart because Gladbach are a strong side. They're good at drawing teams out and then playing over them with players like Tabaković, Hack and Honorat who are all dangerous. We'll need to find a middle ground, but we've been working on it during the week."

Woltemade not involved

Stuttgart confirmed on Thursday night that excused striker Nick Woltemade from training and match action to discuss a transfer with a club abroad.

Gerardo Seoane's thoughts on facing Stuttgart

"Stuttgart are very active with and without the ball and have great attacking quality. It will be important to escape from pressure situations. If we can be as dominant as we were against HSV, that would be great, but in Stuttgart it will certainly be more dynamic, and we will be much more challenged defensively."

Watch: Reyna arrives in Gladbach

Opportune moment for Gio?

Gio Reyna joined Gladbach last weekend from Borussia Dortmund. He could made his debut in Stuttgart, who are his favourite Bundesliga opponent with three goals scored.

League issues

Stuttgart may have won the DFB Cup last season and kick off their title defence on Tuesday at Eintracht Braunschweig, but they have had a difficult year in the Bundesliga, winning only eight league fixtures in 2025, alongside nine defeats and three draws.

Away win on the cards?

The respective away team won both meetings between these sides last season. This fixture has never seen three consecutive away victories. Tim Kleindienst (pictured) scored in the most recent and has four goals in five Bundesliga meetings with Stuttgart, but is currently out injured.

Deja-vu?

Last season Stuttgart also came up short in the Supercup and then lost their opening Bundesliga game away from home. Their Matchday 2 result was a 3-3 draw at home to Mainz. Their first win finally came in their third game by beating Gladbach 3-1.
