Watch: The Stuttgart players thank the visiting fans

Full-time: Bayern Munich 5-1 VfB Stuttgart

Bayern begin the season as they mean to go on by thrashing Stuttgart. The visitors put up a good fight for the most part, but crumbled as the game went on and once Bayern retook the lead, there was only ever going to be one winner.

Díaz adds a fifth

Stuttgart lose the ball cheaply and Saibari does brilliantly to slot Díaz in behind on the spin. This time the Colombian makes no mistake when through on goal and fires home.

Pavlović makes it 4-1

Bayern team news

Kompany opts for two changes from the side that beat Dortmund to lift the Super Cup last week as Upamecano and Davies come into the team in place of Tah and Stanišić. That means Brown is once again set to start at 10 while Saibari's Bundesliga debut will have to come from the bench.

Stuttgart team news

Hoeneß also makes two changes from last weekend's win over Hansa Rostock, but they are both enforced as Nartey and Führich miss out through injury. In their places are Hendriks and Vagnoman in what would appear to be a shift to a 5-man defence. New signings Prömel and Pejčinović both start.

Watch: Bayern's final training session

Pejčinović relishing Bayern challenge

Pejčinović will make his Bundesliga bow for Stuttgart against Bayern, and he is looking forward to the occasion. "Excitement and desire are definitely the biggest things for me. I think you don’t always get a start like this against a team like that, so you look forward to it. At the same time, you want to show that we’re going to give everything and make it as difficult as possible for them."

Pejčinović a big fan of Kane

Pejčinović will come up against Harry Kane here, and has admitted to being a huge fan of the Bayern forward. "My friends know this: I used to be a Tottenham fan because Harry Kane played there," he explained. "For me, he’s a player I love watching because, both offensively and defensively against the ball, he does things that not every striker does. I absolutely love that, and that’s why I always try to pick up little things from him."

Pecjinovic remaining calm despite incredible debut

Pejčinović's hat-trick against Rostock has brought with it added expectation, but he is remaining calm. "Honestly, it doesn’t really do anything to me. You can say that at Wolfsburg I also scored three goals against Freiburg, and hype or no hype, it didn’t affect me because for me it was simply important to remain consistent and keep scoring goals. Of course, I don’t think about hype, but simply about success for the team."
2:58

Watch: Pejčinović targeting more after dream debut

Dženan Pejčinović got straight down to work for VfB Stuttgart in their DFB Cup first round victory at Hansa Rostock, demonstrating exactly why they signed him from relegated Wolfsburg. The 21-year-old striker is stepping up to a club set to play in the UEFA Champions League for the second time in three years under Sebastian Hoeneß, who also steered them to victory in the 2025 DFB Cup. On the Bundesliga front, Stuttgart and Pejčinović have the ultimate opportunity to show what they are made of on Matchday 1 – against Bayern in his native Munich.

Watch: Bayern’s New Attacking Ace

Alongside Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz and all the rest, Bayern Munich have now also added Ismael Saibari to their highly potent attacking mix. The 25-year-old Morocco international’s move to Munich from PSV Eindhoven was finalised during the World Cup, at which he was one of his country’s stand-out performers on their run to the quarter-finals. We find out more about a true offensive all-rounder now eager to showcase that versatility in the Bundesliga.

Karl back, no Musiala

Kompany has confirmed that Lennart Karl is fit following the injury that saw him miss the World Cup, but "we need to wait and see how big a role he plays". The Belgian also offered an update on Jamal Musiala, confirming that he will train with the team on Thursday but won't be involved against Stuttgart. "He's getting used to his increased medication. He'll be back in the squad at some point. We'll make the decision together with experts. On the whole, he's pretty well."
1:08

Vincent Kompany on facing Stuttgart

"A game against Stuttgart is very intense. They're a team who always apply pressure, look to play. They had the second-best attack last season. It's not a bad game to start. It'll be a tough game. It's a new season, new opportunities. I'm excited for the new season. We have to start again. In my head, I've got zero titles and we need to prove ourselves again."
1:22

Sebastian Hoeneß on facing Bayern

"It's the toughest possible away game. Everything has to be right against Bayern. They're already in excellent form, as they showed in the Supercup against Dortmund. We want to continue our successful way but also can't forget where we come from and what makes us. We'll need to continue having a clear approach, lots of energy and great desire in our game."

A first for everything?
