The Frankfurt boss gave no clues as to whether Kauã Santos would start on his return to the squad: “Sometimes I give you guys and insight into what the line-up will look like but in this case I won’t. We have a clear plan with how we’re going to proceed with Kauã Santos in the next few weeks, and we’re happy that he has come far enough to be back available for a Bundesliga game, but you’ll have to let yourselves be surprised tomorrow morning.”

Toppmöller was beaming about the Eagles' reduced injury list, even after the international break: "The guys came back from the international break healthy. Mario Götze is still not in contention for the game against Leverkusen but Jonny Burkardt and Kauã Santos will be back in the squad.”

New faces

Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Fernández (pictured) arrived at Leverkusen from Saudi Arabia at the end of the transfer window, becoming the club's 16th summer signing and could make his debut this weekend. As for Frankfurt, they wrapped up the majority of their business early and it appears to be paying off with Ritsu Dōan, in particular, hitting the ground running so far.

A(nother) new era

After just three games in charge, Erik ten Hag was dismissed by Leverkusen ahead of the international break. It means Leverkusen are back to square one in trying to replace double-winning ex-coach Xabi Alonso. The club have said they hope to have a new coach in place by Tuesday and this would be their first game at the helm.

With one point after two games, Leverkusen have made their worst start to a Bundesliga season for eight years. In 2017/18, under Heiko Herrlich, Bayer also lost on Matchday 1 before drawing on Matchday 2. They then suffered defeat on Matchday 3...
