Champions League thoughts

Bayern have their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid coming up next week, but Saturday's game could also have a big impact on next season. If they win in Freiburg, they will be guaranteed a top-four finish and therefore a place in the 2026/27 league phase. That will also be the case if they lose and either Leipzig, Hoffenheim or Stuttgart fail to win.

Kompany on Neuer and Urbig

"Manu is 100 percent fit. He's been in top form in training this week. If he can reproduce that next week, we'll all be very happy. Jonas [Urbig] rejoined us yesterday, which is also a very positive development for us."

Kompany on Musiala and Davies

"Both are available for our upcoming games, but whether they're capable of playing three games in a week or 90 minutes straight is another matter. I've seen the minutes they're capable of playing, and we'll get the best out of them. We're trying to make sensible decisions."

Kompany confirms Kane absence

Vincent Kompany has confirmed Harry Kane will miss the trip to Freiburg through injury. "Harry trained well until Sunday [but] felt his ankle with the national team," said the Bayern Munich boss. "I'm optimistic about Tuesday, though [when Bayern face Real Madrid]. I'd like to have him available for Freiburg, but that's not possible at the moment."

"They're a team with intensity who are very, very strong at home. They have players who are confident and score goals. They've remained very consistent, despite their fixture list - not everyone manages to do that in Europe and in the Bundesliga. That shows how their young coach is helping the club with his personal touch. I count this game as one of the most difficult ones in the league."

Julian Schuster on facing Bayern

"[The reverse fixture] was an important experience which taught us that, at certain moments, they actually offer you the chance to get at them. On Saturday, there will also be phases where we'll have to dig in to keep them at bay - but the key is to get through those moments and be fully ready for the next phase of play. We mustn't lose focus or intensity, remaining highly alert throughout the whole game. That will be crucial."

Kane suffers minor injury

The Bayern forward played no part in England's 1-0 friendly defeat to Japan on Tuesday after picking up an injury in training. It's unclear as to whether Kane will be available for Saturday's clash with Friday, although England's Football Association did explain his absence was a precautionary measure.

The Bayern winger started against both Brazil and Luis Díaz's Colombia in France's recent friendlies, playing a starring role in both as Les Bleus made it two wins from two.

Bayern quintet star in Ghana win

Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jonathan Tah all started Germany's 2-1 win over Ghana on Monday night, with Leon Goretzka and Lennart Karl also coming off the bench for Nagelsmann's side.

Injury updates

Jonas Urbig returned to individual training on the pitch on 30 March after coming back early from international duty with a knee probem. Manuel Neuer and Raphaël Guerreiro took part in squad training, whilst Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Aleksandar Pavlović also completed parts of the team session.

Freiburg eye return to Europe

Fresh from securing a place in a European quarter-final for the first time in their history, Julian Schuster's side ended a run of three league games without a win against St. Pauli. Freiburg are nine points adrift of the top six but are now just a point behind seventh-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who were beaten at Mainz in their last game.

Runaway leaders closing in on title

Bayern's victory over Union was their sixth win in their past seven league fixtures, leaving them nine points clear of closest pursuers Borussia Dortmund with seven games remaining. With Dortmund travelling to third-placed VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 28, Vincent Kompany's side will be hopeful of extending that lead even further in the Black Forest.
