Full-time: Leipzig 2-0 Heidenheim

Leipzig's second-half dominance proves too much for Heidenheim as Ole Werner picks up his first three points as Leipzig boss. Baumgartner's clinical finish shortly after the restart put Die Roten Bullen in the driving seat, before Rômulo sealed the win half an hour later with a fantastic improvised effort on his first Bundesliga start.

Openda hits it

The Belgian wins a free-kick right on the edge of the box and steps up to take it himself. His first effort is smashed into the wall and drops back to him. Likewise, his follow-up effort is blocked.

Added time

Four additional minutes are indicated. Nedeljkovic replaces Baku late on here.

Wide from Diomande

The 18-year-old once again shows what he's all about; taking on players. He beats his man, plays it to Baku, who moves the ball on to Openda. The Belgian then puts it back into Diomande's path, but his finish is wide of the mark.

On his first start!

It's Rômulo who doubles Leipzig's advantage late on here! Baku is played through to the byline down the right by Diomande. The right-back digs out a low cross into the middle where Rômulo is lurking, and the Brazilian manages to beat Ramaj with a superb improvised backheel finish to make it 2-0 to the hosts!

Conteh forces the stop

The winger gets on the end of a hopeful ball over the top from Heidenheim. From the left side of the box, he aims for the far corner, but Gulácsi is equal to the effort with a great reaction stop.

A look back at the opener

Baumgartner showed exquisite technique to beat Ramaj at the near post with the outside of his boot. The Austrian's goal remains all that separates the sides here.
72'

Baku goes through

This time, it's the full-back who goes through on goal, found by a great pass from Seiwald. He bears down on Ramaj, but his low left-footed effort isn't enough to beat the Heidenheim custodian.
71'

Side netting

Leipzig have been really positive since their double change, with Diomande looking particularly lively. Most recently, Nusa went on a slaloming run before letting fly from the left of the box, however, his powerful effort is rifled into the side netting.
69'

Beck on

It's another attacking-minded substitution by Frank Schmidt as he looks to encourage his team to an equaliser.
68'

Double change

It's Werner's turn to go the bench, bringing on the young Diomande and Seiwald for Bakayoko and Banzuzi.
66'

Conteh booked

The winger sees yellow for a challenge on Nusa.
65'

Crossbar!

From the resultant corner, Baumgartner rises high to flick a header goalwards. Ramaj is beaten, but it grazes the top of the crossbar and goes behind.
65'

Huge chance for Nusa

Baku plays a low cross towards Nusa on the edge of the Heidenheim box. The Norwegian winger takes a couple brilliant touches before letting fly, but Mainka stays with him, blocking it behind for a corner.
62'

Honsak down

From the subsequent free-kick, Leipzig clear the initial ball to the edge of the box, where Honsak attempts a volley. He slips and miscues it and stays down, calling for treatment. He's back on his feet now, though.

Raum booked

The Leipzig captain joins the ever-growing list of cautions this afternoon after a late challenge on Conteh.

Triple change

Schmidt opts for a triple substitution just before the hour-mark to try and find a way back into this game. Conteh, Zivzivadze and Niehues all enter the fray.

Busch cautioned

Heidenheim's right-back picks up a booking for an overly physical challenge on Nusa.
53'

Cleared away

Scienza does well down the left for Heidenheim before crossing into Kaufmann at the near post. It's a dangerous ball, but Leipzig manage to scramble it clear for a throw-in.
52'

Kaufmann goes into the book

The striker is the latest to see yellow, receiving his caution for a late challenge on the goalscorer, Baumgartner.
49'

Baumgartner smashes home the opener!

The Austrian scores Leipzig's first goal of the new campaign, and how he did it! A long ball over the top from Raum is played into Baumgartner's path. The attacking-midfielder is isolated up top and goes it alone, smashing the ball, which he lets come over his shoulder, with the outside of his right boot, beating Ramaj at the near post.

Half-time: Leipzig 0-0 Heidenheim

So, both sides go in level at the break as they continue their search for their first points of the season. Leipzig have dominated possession and nearly took an early lead through Baumgartner, who pounced on a loose pass by Dorsch. Honsak perhaps came the closest to scoring for the visitors, but was denied by a smart stop from Gulácsi. Likewise, Rômulo forced a great save out of Ramaj later on in the half, as both keepers have managed to prevent each side from breaking the deadlock this afternoon.

Raum on the volley

Schlager picks out his captain with a fantastic cross-field pass. It's slightly overhit and the full-back has to stretch on the volley to get it. He does excellently to steer it goalwards, but Ramaj gathers the ball with no real trouble.

Rômulo denied!

The Brazilian is played through on goal with a chipped ball from Baumgartner. He only has Ramaj to beat, but Rômulo's low effort is met by a brilliant stop from the Heidenheim keeper.
camera-photo

Still no breakthrough

Nusa has looked lively down the left for Leipizg, who have looked in control in the opening half hour here. Nevertheless, it's still all-square.
31'

Great stop by Ramaj

Schlager and Raum combine excellently down the left before the latter unleashes a shot. It takes a deflection off Busch and is creeping in at the near post, but Ramaj makes an excellent reaction save to deny him, pushing it round the post to concede corner, which Leipzig don't manage to turn into anything meaningful.

In by Scienza

After drawing a corner off Raum, the Brazilian plays an out-swinger from the right, but a combination of Baku and Raum manage to clear the danger for the hosts.

Banzuzi also sees yellow

The No.6 follows Föhrenbach into the book for a similar challenge on Scienza, which halts a Heidenheim counter-attack.
17'

Föhrenbach booked

The Heidenheim left-back is beaten by Bakayoko and subsequently pulls him back to halt Leipzig's attacking momentum, for which he receives the first yellow card of the game.
13'

Side netting

New boy Banzuzi does really well down the right to get to the byline for Leipzig. His first effort is blocked but falls straight back to the No.6, who then tees up Rômulo, but the Brazilian's effort lands in the side netting.
camera-photo

Dorsch's worrying moment

Baumgartner's challenge on the Heidenheim midfielder almost gave the lead to the hosts inside six minutes.
9'

So close to the opener!

Heidenheim's first attack sees Scienza float a cross from the right to find the arriving Honsak at the far post. The Heidenheim forward hits a sweet volley, but Gulácsi does well to parry it behind for a corner. The visitors don't manage to make anything of the resultant set-piece.

Almost a gift!

Heidenheim try to play out from the back and Dorsch gets caught in possession by Baumgartner. Ramaj isn't in his goal and the ball rolls narrowly wide of the right post courtesy of Baumgartner's challenge on Dorsch. That was almost calamitous for Heidenheim!
5'

In by Nusa

Leipzig are awarded a free-kick inside the Heidenheim half, near the right touchline. Nusa floats a cross in, but the visitors deal with the danger assuredly.
3'

Nusa takes a tumble

The Norwegian is played through into the Heidenheim box following a spell of prolonged possession from the hosts. He goes shoulder-to-shoulder with Busch and goes down in the box, screaming for a penalty. However, the referee correctly dismisses any appeal.

Heidenheim team news

Frank Schmidt makes three changes to his Heidenheim side that were defeated 3-1 by Wolfsburg on the opening day of the season. Zivzivadze, Siersleben and Schöppner all drop to the bench and are replaced by Kaufmann, Kerber and Honsak.

More on that Leipzig side

For Ole Werner's Leipzig, there are four changes to the line-up he fielded for last week's season opener away at Bayern. Xavi has completed his move to Tottenham Hotspur and as such, his position is taken by Baumgartner. There's a first Bundesliga each for Rômulo and Banzuzi too, replacing Openda and Seiwald, who drop to the bench. Nusa also starts in place of Diomande (likewise benched).
camera-photo

Ole Werner's thoughts on facing Heidenheim

"Heidenheim's squad hasn't changed too much. They're always full of running and can play with high intensity. We need to look out for their long balls and set-pieces, be clever to break their press, make use of space and be strong in the counterpress. They will push us to the limit. The way the club has been run with calmness and composure for many years commands great respect."
camera-photo

Frank Schmidt on facing Leipzig

"We need good defensive behavior, especially when it comes to defending deep, because Leipzig will attack with a lot of pace from the wings. In Loïs Openda, Leipzig has a player who has shown time and again against us that he has the quality."
camera-photo

Beware Openda

Loïs Openda has scored a goal in all four Bundesliga meetings between Leipzig and Heidenheim. There's no other team he's scored more against in his professional career.
camera-photo

It's not rocket Scienza

Léo Scienza has scored in each of Heidenheim's last three competitive outings, netting four goals in the process. That includes the strike that kept them in the Bundesliga via the play-off last season.
camera-photo

Hello, old foe

Leipzig and Heidenheim were promoted to Bundesliga 2 together in 2014, with the latter finishing ahead in the 3. Liga as champions. RB have lost just one of 10 competitive meetings, while their record in the Bundesliga is three wins and a draw.
camera-photo

Happy travellers

Heidenheim have won their last four competitive away games, which is their best run for almost 12 years.

A tough start

Leipzig's 6-0 loss at Bayern on opening weekend was their heaviest ever in the top flight. They now begin a matchday bottom of the Bundesliga table for only the second time.
