Amiri fires just wide
Amiri has been excellent all game, and he comes so close to making it 3-2. He runs along the edge of the box before firing his shot just to the left of the post.

Just moments left in Leipzig
Mainz fans are currently watching two games. Arguably, the most important at this moment is the game in Leipzig, where Stuttgart still lead. Just a minute or so remaining.

Tah joins his manager in the book
Tah also gets himself a yellow card in his final game for the club.
77'
A slower last few minutes
Since Mainz equalised, this game has slowed in tempo. Mainz are just trying to get the points they need.
72'
Massive news from elsewhere
Stuttgart have taken the lead in Leipzig, and Mainz once again look comfortably on course for the final European spot. Still some time to play though both here and in Leipzig.

So close to the leveller
Mwene gets on the end of a long ball and tries to direct it back across to Lee. In the end, though, his cross almost drifts into the far corner. That could have easily been 2-2.

Leipzig have the lead once more
Leipzig have retaken the lead against Stuttgart. At the moment, that doesn't mean anything, but it would be very important should Leverkusen equalise.

A massive chance for 2-0
Amiri pounces on a loose ball with just Hrádecký to beat. He has time, but he wastes the opportunity, firing directly at the Leverkusen goalkeeper from close range.

Lots of added time here after some of the goal checks we had earlier.

A huge chance for the equaliser
Tella gets in behind the Mainz defence with just Zentner to beat. He tries to go round the goalkeeper and appears to be tripped, but on closer inspection, there is nothing in it. Excellent officiating.
40'
A double booking
Bell goes in over-enthusiastically on Palacios, earning himself a yellow card. Palacios reacts poorly and earns himself a yellow too.

Goal number three disallowed
For the third time today, Mainz have the ball in the net, and for the third time today, the goal is disallowed. This time, it is Hanche-Olsen who pokes home, but the goal is disallowed as Hrádecký was adjudged to have his hands on the ball.

Another offside opener for the hosts
Mainz are on the verge of celebrating again as this time it is Lee who fires home. Again, though, he was offside just before the goal.

Mainz think they have the lead through Amiri after a good counter-attack. Unfortunately for the hosts, Caci was offside when the initial long ball over the top was played.

News from elsewhere
Leipzig have taken the lead against Stuttgart, meaning that as it stands, Mainz will drop out of the last European place. Still lots of time to play though.
11'
First sight of Wirtz
Wirtz gets on the ball for the first time in the game before skipping past a challenge and striking it. Bell is in the way, though.

Mainz have started fantastically
It has been all Mainz in the first few minutes. Burkardt has already got a couple of shots away with the latest dropping to Nebel just in front of goal. He has a lot of goal to aim at, but he drags his shot narrowly wide. A huge chance!
3'
Almost the opener
After a lengthy check for a penalty, Amiri whips in the corner and finds Hanche-Olsen. He hits it on the volley, but the ball goes narrowly wide.

A tale of goodbyes for Leverkusen
After an incredible spell at the club, Leverkusen will be set to lose two legends today as both Alonso and Tah will be moving on next season.
Players on the pitch
Both sets of players are now on the turf as we approach kick-off. A big day ahead in the Bundesliga. Mainz still have their European fate in their own hands.

One final football feast
Mainz welcome Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen side on Matchday 34, as they aim to confirm their place in European competition for 2025/26. Their improvement under Bo Henriksen has been monumental, and were it not for a late dip in form, could have even been fighting for a Champions League place on the final day. Nevertheless, they go into today's clash on 51 points, level with Leipzig who are one place behind. For Leverkusen, their second place finish has been secured for some time already, and will therefore be focused on providing Alonso and Jonathan Tah with a fitting send off to their Leverkusen careers.

Century up for Granit
Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka is on the brink of making his 100th competitive appearance for the club since signing in the summer of 2023.
Rare runners-up spot
While they may not have scaled the same title-winning heights as last season, Leverkusen will finish a season as runners-up for the first time since 2010/11.
