Champions on the road - again?

Leverkusen's win against Augsburg last week prevented Bayern sealing the title in front of their own fans with their 3-0 win against Mainz. Claiming the title on their travels would be nothing new for Bayern - just two of their last 17 Bundesliga title wins have come in Munich, 13 have been in away matches and two have come while the team were on the sofa or bus.

Record breakers

Bayern would secure their 34th German title (and 33rd Bundesliga honour) with a win today, while no other side has as many as ten. After 90 goals this season, they have an outside chance of setting a new record goals' total - with the current best being their own 101 goals in 1971/72.
camera-photo

Harry Kane absent

The Bundesliga's leading marksman with 24 goals this season will play no part at the Red Bull Arena today because of a suspension. Kane picked up his fifth booking of the campaign against Mainz last weekend but will be with his teammates in the stands in Saxony today. "It's kind of my story that I'll miss the Leipzig game," Bayern's No.9 said. "But, no worries; I'll celebrate more than anyone else [if we win]."

Zsolt Lőw on facing Bayern

"Everybody knows that Bayern are a great team. Harry Kane will be replaced by a different player, who will possibly interpret his role slightly differently. I watched back the whole first half from our game against Bayern back in 2017. We can use it as motivation and it gave me a few ideas and memories of how to approach the game. We can also learn things from our win in 2018. We want to play better football and show more passion. We want to play well for the whole 90 minutes."

"They have a lot of talent and quality, lots of good young players. They lost in Frankfurt. I think they'll now play with full energy again, look to attack. Teams make radical decisions against Bayern. They either pour forward or focus on defence. I think we'll get the best version of Leipzig as an opponent. It'll be tough. We need to prepare for the game, not for a party."

Watch: Thomas Müller and Harry Kane's 2024/25 journeys

While Harry Kane is about to win his first team trophy with Bayern Munich, his teammate Thomas Müller has been here many times before.

Previous meetings

The past two Bundesliga meetings have gone Bayern's way with an aggregate score of 7-2, while the record over 10 games reads as: six wins for Bayern, two for Leipzig and two draws.

On the cusp

With eight points separating Bayern from Leverkusen in second, a win here would mean that the title returns to Munich. Having already scored 90 goals with three games remaining, Vincent Kompany's side have been almost unstoppable this season, and need just one more win to confirm yet another Bundesliga title for the club.

Unpredictable

Having looked like title challengers in the early stages of the season, Leipzig now face a challenge to qualify for Champions League football next season. Currently in fifth and just two points behind Freiburg, Die Roten Bullen will need to bounce back from a heavy defeat to Frankfurt if they're to take points from Bayern.

MD32 stakes

If Bayern win, they will be the 2024/25 Bundesliga champions. It's as simple as that. If they don't win, and Leverkusen don't win on Sunday, they will also claim the title. Leipzig need to win and hope Freiburg don't to clamber into the top four.
