Full-time: Leipzig 1-1 Kiel

It ends all square at the Red Bull Arena. Leipzig managed to get themselves back into it after goalkeeper Dähne brought down Openda for a penalty which Benjamin Šeško converted. But ultimately, they didn't do quite enough and they allowed too many chances for Kiel. The injuries to both Zec and Gulácsi provide a somber backdrop to the result, but ultimately it's honours even in Leipzig.

Following an out-swinging Tolkin corner from the left, Arp felt as though he was caught by a high boot, but for his reaction, the Kiel man sees yellow.

Mistimed

Arp has a free header on the edge of the Leipzig box, but he gets the timing all wrong and fails to connect with the header. That could've been it for the Storks!

Poulsen is played through into the Kiel box with a good pass. The substitute lets the ball roll across his body before letting fly, but his powerful effort is met by an equally strong save from Dähne.

One final change

It's one more roll of the dice from Marcel Rapp, who introduces Arp for Bernhardsson as the Storks continue to search for a winner.
86'

Over from Baumgartner

Once again, it's the Austrian midfielder who lets fly at the Kiel goal, but this time, his effort is hit well over the bar.

Šeško's equaliser

The Slovenian striker made no mistake from the spot as he brought his side back level in the 74th minute.

Baumgartner bends it

The Austrian just about manages to get a shot away from the edge of the box. Aiming for the bottom right corner with a curled effort, he forces a great save out of Thomas Dähne.
84'

Kiel corner

Tolkin whips it in from the right, but it's straight into the hands of Vandevoordt.
82'

In from the right

Geertruida wins a corner down the right for Leipzig and tries to lift the crowd. Seiwald takes it, but a really strong Kiel header clears the danger.
80'

Double change

Rapp makes attacking-minded substitutions as he sends Porath and Harres out onto the pitch in the hopes of reclaiming the lead.
77'

Disallowed!

Baumgartner turns his man about 35 yards from goal before slipping Openda in behind. The Belgian opens his body and curls a great finish into the far corner with his first touch, but the assistant had his flag raised; Openda was clearly offside.

Openda brought down!

Seiwald plays a good ball in behind for Openda to chase. The Belgian just gets there ahead of Dähne, who had come off his line, and brings Leipzig's No. 11 down. The referee points to the spot...
72'

A lull in play

The long stoppage whilst both players received treatment has just slowed the pace of the game a little since the restart. The ball is repeatedly getting overturned in the midfield.
67'

Unable to continue

Both Zec and Gulácsi leave the field following the clash of heads under concussion protocol and are replaced by Johansson and Vandevoordt, respectively. Zec managed to leave the field himself, whilst Gulácsi was stretchered off. Let's hope that it's nothing too serious for either player. Knudsen also came on for Skrzybski in the wake of all of that.
63'

Collision

Leipzig misplace another pass on the edge of the Kiel box, and the visitors instantly look to counter. Bernhardsson plays Zec through, who had made a bursting run up from the back. Gulácsi comes off his line to clear it, colliding with Zec at full tilt in the process. There's no inkling of a foul, but there's a lengthy stoppage as both players stayed down after that.
60'

Just wide

Bernhardsson cuts in off the right flank before letting a left-footed shot fly from the edge of the box. His effort whistles narrowly past the right post. Gulácsi may not have been getting there...
57'

Geertruida!

Following another Leipzig corner which Kiel clear, the ball falls to Geertruida, who drives at the Kiel defence, looking for an opening. Eventually, he is forced to cross, which nearly loops over Dähne, and in, but the Kiel keeper was alert to the danger and gets up well to make the catch.
56'

Storks delivering chances

It's the visitors who have been much more productive in forward areas so far. They're good value for their lead at the moment.

Miscommunication

A promising-looking Leipzig attack sees Openda slip Baumgartner through in the Kiel box. There seems to be some confusion between the Austrian and Bitshiabu, allowing Kiel to get a block in behind for a corner. The set-piece comes in from the left, but Dähne is there to punch it clear.
52'

Combining well

Machino's chipped ball over the Leipzig defence releases Tolkin down the left. The American wing-back plays it on to Skrzybski, who tries to lay it back off to him with a backheel, but Klostermann manages to clear. Bernhardsson retrieves it and shoots from the edge of the box, but the powerful effort is blocked.

Machino's opener

The Japanese international's first half goal remains all that separates these sides five minutes into the second 45.
49'

Seiwald on the free-kick

Zec gives away a foul near the right touchline. Seiwald takes, fizzing in a low cross which bounces in the box before falling to Baumgartner, who gets a touch on it, taking it just wide of the left post.
46'

Back underway!

Leipzig gets the ball rolling again for the second half here. As expected, Zsolt Lőw makes changes at half-time, bringing Haidara and Geertruida on for Vermeeren and Nedeljkovic as they chase the game.

Half-time: Leipzig 0-1 Kiel

So it's Kiel who go in at the break with the advantage. The Storks have been the better team on the whole in the first half, frequently troubling the Leipzig backline, but without troubling Gulácsi in goal too much, until Machino's opener. The hosts started very strongly, with Šeško coming very close to providing the lead inside five minutes, but Zsolt Lőw may look to tweak something after half-time, as they're being overrun in the midfield.

Finally Kiel punish Leipzig!

You can't say that hasn't been coming. From the goalkeeper, Kiel play out from the back to beat Leipzig's press once again. Rosenboom is found on the right, who then plays Skrzybski through down the channel. The No. 7 gets his head up, spots Machino at the far post, and just plays it into his path, allowing the Japanese international to smash it home from inside the box. 1-0!

Ivezić!

The Kiel centre-back gets on the end of the Tolkin-taken free-kick, but he can only steer the header over the bar. Kiel are still just lacking that precision in the final third.
41'

Klostermann penalised

The Leipzig centre-back sees yellow for impeding Remberg and preventing a Kiel counter-attack.

Five minutes remaining

With five minutes of normal time left of the half, can either side find a breakthrough before the interval?
37'

Wrong option

Kiel work it really nicely out of defence to beat the Leipzig press. Rosenboom is played through down the right flank, but his attempted through ball to Machino is intercepted. That move had real potential...
33'

Under the kosh

Leipzig have been struggling somewhat in the last five minutes as Kiel are applying the pressure. Most recently, a Tolkin corner from the left was met by a Kiel head in the box, but Leipzig managed to clear.
31'

Skrzybski!

The ball drops kindly for Kiel's attacking midfielder inside the Leipzig box. The No. 7 strikes a low attempt, but drags it well wide of the left post.

Clash of heads

After that corner, Bernhardsson and Klostermann stayed down, their heads having collided in mid-air. After a moment is allowed for them to compose themselves, play resumes.
21'

Machino!

Kiel counter-attack nicely, with Bernhardsson finding Machino on the edge of the box. The Japanese international tries to get past Nedeljkovic, but the full-back stays with him, blocking the shot behind for a corner. The visitors can't make anything of it, though.
17'

Watched it all the way

Openda wins a free-kick on the left wing just inside the Kiel half. Seiwald takes, floating it into the box. No player manages to get a head on it, and it travels all the way through to Dähne, but the keeper kept a close eye on the ball, clasping it in his hands.
camera-photo

Lively start

Both sides have been really energetic in the opening 15 minutes here. It has been really end-to-end at times.
12'

Remberg down

There's a stoppage as Kiel midfielder Remberg stays down following a challenge. He gets to his feet to have further treatment on the sidelines, but he has since returned to the pitch.
9'

Two bites of the cherry

Tolkin takes the subsequent corner, his deep delivery proving uncomfortable for Gulácsi, who tips it behind for another corner from the opposite side. The American takes again, but fails to trouble the Leipzig goal on the second time of asking.
9'

So close!

Skrzybski intercepts a pass at the back from Leipzig and instantly looks to punish the hosts. He spots Gulácsi off his line, attempting a chipped effort from around 40 yards, but the goalkeeper just manages to scramble back to tip it behind for a corner.
6'

On target

Šeško is played in behind with a lofted ball. In bringing it down from high, the striker just allows the defence to get back, forcing him to cross it to Vermeeren . The Belgian connects well with the header, but it's straight at Dähne.
5'

Just wide!

Leipzig work it well down the right with Nedeljkovic, Baku and Seiwald combining. The latter plays a low cross into the box, finding Šeško at the front post. Everyone expected the next to bulge, but the Slovenian's finish just flies narrowly right of the post.
3'

Another corner

Zec gives it away at the back for Kiel and Openda pounces on the loose ball, but Kiel get back to help it behind for a corner. This time, the Storks manage to head it clear, the delivery not really troubling the visitors.
2'

Early corner

Skrzybski concedes it for Kiel. Seiwald takes, an out-swinger from the right, finding Baumgartner at the front post. The Austrian volleys it, but it's well over the bar.

And we're off!

It's visitors Kiel who get the ball rolling here in Leipzig.

For Zsolt Lőw, there's just the one change following victory away in Wolfsburg on Matchday 29. Xavi is serving a suspension for yellow card acquisition, and as such, his place is taken by Baumgartner.

Kiel team news

Marcel Rapp makes two changes to his Kiel side that suffered defeat against St. Pauli last time out. Skrzybski and Zec retake their places in the starting line-up, whilst Komenda misses out with a knock and Knudsen is resigned to the bench.

Zsolt Lőw on facing Kiel

"Holstein Kiel are a team that never give up. They drew against Leverkusen and Stuttgart and almost took a point off Bayern as well. They have played really well against good opposition, even after going behind. We are mentally and tactically prepared for a hard-working opponent, who will be compact and dangerous from counter-attacks."

The rule of threes?

Victory over Kiel would see Leipzig record three consecutive Bundesliga wins for the first time all season. Additionally, there's a personal accolade on the line for coach Zsolt Lőw, who, having won his first two games in charge, can equal Julian Nagelsmann's club record of three wins in his first three league games in charge.
camera-photo

Mission: (not quite) impossible

Kiel sit 11 points behind 15th place, meaning they would have to win at least 4 of their 5 remaining Bundesliga games to avoid relegation. The snag: the Storks have only managed 4 Bundesliga wins so far this season.
