The ten men of Hoffenheim burst Leipzig open on the break, with Anton Stach charging to the edge of the box before laying it on for Valentin Gendrey to strike. Gulácsi gets down well to deny him and then stops Bischof too on the rebound.

Leipzig are hitting the ball around at ease without any urgency to look for openings. That's a tactic that makes sense when they are in front against ten men who are being forced to chase around and will likely tire.

Šeško has an effort cleared just in front of Baumann as Leipzig look for a third, before Kramarić takes the ball towards the hosts' area on the break, hits a shot that is blocked and smashes another a fraction wide.

The hosts restart with two half-time changes, while Hoffenheim have also made a substitution at the break.

Both Adam Hložek and Max Moerstedt are in contention to be involved against Leipzig. On Hložek, Ilzer explained: "The hope is to have him in the squad. There was a mixture of individual training and training with the team to see how his injury reacted. He was out for a long time so we need to see how his fitness levels are." Similarly, on Moerstedt: "Max was back in training today and we will see after tomorrow's training session if he can play a part on Saturday."

This will be Leipzig's 300th game in the Bundesliga since their promotion in 2016. Their opponents in their first match amongst the elite? Hoffenheim, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw.

With the two teams at opposite ends of the table currently, they'll have very different motivations going into this game. Leipzig will look to end a poor run of form under new coach Zsolt Löw, and strengthen their grip on a European football place, while Hoffenheim will try to climb as far up the table as possible in the remaining games.
