Full-time: Bochum 0-1 Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim nick the three points thanks to Bischof's second-half winner which had a great deal of help off the pitch. Bochum will be so disappointed not to have won this, let alone get a point as they were comfortably the better side. Unfortunately for them, this summed up their season with no real threat in front of goal. The hosts stay third-bottom, while the visitors pull eight points clear of them.

A Bochum barrage

The hosts have a series of corners as they desperately try to get level but they still can't quite craft a decent chance. Not long left for Bochum to salvage something from this.

Third change for Bochum

Krauß is sent to the deck and then removed from the action before Bochum take the subsequent free-kick. De Wit is on in his place.

Hoffenheim lead!

The visitors break the deadlock and they're incredibly lucky to do so. Not only because it's completely against the run of play but also the fact that Bischof's speculative effort bobbles over the diving Horn.

Red card

A member of Hoffenheim's coaching staff, Frank Fröhling, is shown a red card and sent down the Bochum trapdoor for protesting that penalty decision.
67'

Penalty appeal...

But nothing doing. Orban breaks clear and has a fantastic opportunity to get a shot away but goes down in the box as a Bochum defender comes in to make a challenge. There's no contact and, you have to say, Orban was better off staying on his feet as he had a clear sight of goal.
61'

Just over

Stach has another go from distance but his effort sails over the bar. Horn was scrambling a bit but looked to have it covered.
59'

Double change

Hoffenheim blink first, bringing on Tabaković and Akpoguma. The former scored in the reverse fixture and boy could they do with him doing so again today.
55'

Brilliant block, Chaves

Sissoko finds Bero, whose first touch is superb, allowing him to fire at goal but an outstanding block from Chaves denies his opponent. A superb piece of defending.
53'

First booking

Stach sees his name written in the referee's little black book for a foul on Krauß. It was right on the edge of the box as the Bochum man was racing towards goal. Cynical but much needed from a Hoffenheim perspective, although it means Stach will miss their next game.

Masouras breaks...

... but he doesn't have the pace to get clear of the Hoffenheim defence. He's eventually held up and adjudge offside anyway, but good signs for Bochum that they can turn their opponents around.

The ball's rolling once more

Here we go, can one of these teams go on to claim a massive win?

Half-time: Bochum 0-0 Hoffenheim

Pretty much as you'd expect from a relegation six-pointer so far. Bochum have gone close through Medić and Hofmann, while Stach and Kramarić posed threats at the other end but without either team really looking like taking a lead. All to play for in the second 45.

Hofmann heads wide

The Bochum skipper is such a good focal point and they try to find him at every opportunity. He heads just wide when meeting a cross from the right and, moments later, feeds the ball superbly out to the left before swinging at fresh air when the ball is returned. Nearly an opener.

Good save, Horn

Stach lets fly from the edge of the box but Horn deals with it well, getting across to palm the ball away from danger. That was our first shot on goal, which says a fair amount about how this game has gone so far.

Home fans in great voice

It's, of course, carnival time and the Bochum supporters are in fine voice, and some great clobber, today. There's some amazing fancy dress outfits, including a big group of fans in 80s shell suits.

Another chance for Medić

Sissoko nods Bero's corner down to Medić on the penalty spot but his swivelling volley is well blocked. Bochum look threatening from every set-piece.
24'

A bit scrappy

The game's breaking down a bit now, with both sides struggling to string a good spell together on the ball. Bochum still have the better of it but without threatening the Hoffenheim goal.

Good reactions

Masouras is almost through on goal but Baumann is quick to react, flying off his line to get to the ball first. Great awareness from the TSG skipper, they already look more solid with him back in the side.
17'

Sissoko the string-puller

Sissoko has been excellent so far and is the link between defence, midfield and attack. He wins the ball on the edge of the box before, moments later, freeing a teammate on the left for a counter. Nothing comes of it but Sissoko is at the heart of everything so far.

Off the post!

Bochum work a deep free-kick well, with the ball eventually finding Medić at the back stick but he can only head onto the post. Nearly 1-0 there.

The Kramarić scoop

Kramarić comes deep to get on the ball and attempts to lift the ball over the Bochum defence but it's harmless in the end. Hoffenheim yet to get going here.

Direct from Bochum

The hosts twice go long and find success, getting up the pitch quickly and getting bodies running off Hofmann. A positive start for Bochum.

Bochum team news

As for today's hosts, Bochum have two new faces from the 1-1 draw at Wolfsburg last weekend. Passlack comes in on the right of defence as Oermann moves into the back-three, while Wittek (pictured) starts on the left in place of Holtmann.

Hoffenheim team news

The visitors make five changes from last time out, with four of those coming in defence. The good news is that skipper Baumann is back between the posts having missed the last five through injury.

DFB tribunal rejects Union Berlin's appeal following match-interrupted draw with Bochum

Dieter Hecking's view on Hoffenheim

"Hoffenheim have had an up-and-down season and their squad is much better than their league position suggests. I watched their game in Bremen in person, and they absolutely deserved to win. If you look at their list of absentees, there are some very good players who are slowly coming back. They're a strong footballing team, but they can also bring intensity to the pitch. They will go for it up front to cause us problems."
camera-photo

Christian Ilzer's view on Bochum

"They play with great energy and have had some impressive results. They've found themselves as a team. Bochum want to draw us in at the bottom. We want the opposite. We're facing a decisive game here but also can't forget our own strengths. But there's no reason to go there pleased with our last two games. We need to drive to want three points."
