Surprise at the Wolves

At the start of 2026, Cleiton joined Wolfsburg but also suffered from injuries. Now, he makes his competitive debut from the first whistle.

Season debut

Due to the injuries, Rapp reshuffles the defence. Smith is likely to drop back from midfield into the defensive line. In addition, Ritzka makes his first appearance of this season.

A first start for Ceesay

The striker joined St. Pauli in early 2025 and had come off the bench in all 33 matches so far. He now starts for the first time, having scored in each of his last five substitute appearances.

More on that Wolfsburg team

The visitors also have to replace three absentees in Angély, Glatzel and Rexhbeçaj. Captain Arnold drops to the bench following the spectacular 4-4 draw against Energie Cottbus. Cleiton, Damar (pictured), Svanberg and Shiogai come into the starting eleven.

More on that Pauli team

Following the 2-2 draw against Arminia Bielefeld, there is a major rotation for the Hamburg side. Andō, Mathisen and Hrgota drop out while Hara and Kaars start on the bench. Coming into the squad are Ceesay, Metcalfe, Niang, Fujita and Ritzka.

Marcel Rapp on facing Wolfsburg

"We are facing a side with good individual players who have achieved good results so far. We are playing at home and are eager to secure our first three points. We have come close on several occasions, now we want to get it right. We are looking forward to playing against what is supposedly the best side, but we are also confident in ourselves. I think it will be a fierce battle."

Tobias Strobl on facing Pauli

"The lads are really fired up and looking forward to the match. Of course, it is important not to get carried away by the potentially heated atmosphere. They should simply enjoy it and put their stamp on the game."
