Who was the Bundesliga's standout performer at the FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage??

The largest group stage in World Cup history, with 72 matches, is now over, and many Bundesliga players have added another chapter to their own careers. But which have impressed you the most?

Harry Kane

Not only for Bayern Munich, but also for the English national team, the 32-year-old striker brings a virtual guarantee of goals. In the 4-2 opening victory over Croatia, Kane scored twice and added another goal in the 2-0 win against Panama. With this, the Bundesliga top scorer overtook Gary Lineker and is now the new all-time leading scorer in World Cup history for the Three Lions.

Michael Olise

Bayern's 'Mr. Nonchalant' enchanted the football world in the group stage with elegance and efficiency and was described by none other than teammate Kylian Mbappé as "the player of today and tomorrow." His four assists in the preliminary round contributed to the fact that co-favourites France remained undefeated with three wins.

Luis Díaz

The third Munich player to impress so far is playing for Colombia and even finished ahead of Portugal, including superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, in Group K. At his first World Cup, Lucho shone in the crucial opening victory against Uzbekistan with a goal and an assist and was a constant threat to opposing defences in the following matches as well.

Johan Manzambi

The breakout star of last season at Freiburg, the 20-year-old has seamlessly continued his strong Bundesliga performances for Switzerland. In the 4-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, Manzambi scored twice after coming on as a substitute, earning himself a starting spot for the final group match against Canada. There, he was once again the standout player, leading the Swiss to a 2-1 win with a goal and an assist. Now, Algeria awaits.

Deniz Undav

Should the VfB Stuttgart striker continue to start from the bench? No other question is currently stirring up more debate among the nearly 80 million German national team coaches than this one. Undav himself has certainly provided enough arguments for a starting spot: three goals and two assists in the group stage, including the last-minute winning goal against Ivory Coast, are definitely impressive.

Marcel Sabitzer

For the first time in 44 years, Austria have reached the knockout stage of a World Cup, and they owe this in part to Borussia Dortmund's midfielder. Having contributed an assist in the 3-1 opening victory against Jordan, Sabitzer shone with a goal of his own in the wild 3-3 draw against Algeria. Austria will now face Spain in the round of 32.

Felix Nmecha

The 25-year-old midfielder from Borussia Dortmund has been one of the positive surprises of the World Cup so far and is currently an indispensable part of the German national team's game. In the resounding victory over Curaçao (7-1), he provided an assist and scored one himself, while in the 2-1 win against Ivory Coast, his world-class pass to Undav led to the Stuttgart man's last-minute winner.

Yan Diomande

Joshua Kimmich painfully experienced just how good RB Leipzig's star winger is in the second group stgage match. The German captain repeatedly came up second best against Diomande in duels. The 19-year-old was a key player for the Ivorians in all three group games and even contributed an assist in the final group match, a 2-0 win over Curaçao.

Malik Tillman

Although the Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder was only on the bench until shortly before the end of the USA's final group match against Turkey, this measure was intended to rest the key player. Previously, the 24-year-old had been an important part of Mauricio Pochettino's team, which has surprised many. In the 4-1 victory over Paraguay, Tillman also provided an assist.

Ibrahim Maza

Although the 20-year-old Leverkusen forward is still waiting for his first goal or assist at the World Cup for Algeria, Ibrahim Maza is indispensable to the North African team's play. As one of the side's key attacking creators, Maza brings pace to the game and has been directly involved in eleven shots on goal (eight shots, three assists). He has also won an impressive 68 per cent of his duels.
