Michael Olise looks to break new ground with Bayern Munich after historic FIFA World Cup

Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise is ready to unleash his talents on the Bundesliga again after dazzling with France in a historic World Cup campaign, which saw him break Pelé's record for the most assists at a finals tournament.

Watching a world-class footballer at the peak of their powers is one thing, but seeing one whose star just keeps on rising and seemingly knows no limit is another - and that is the category Olise is in after a truly stunning past 12 months for Bayern and France.

The wing wizard was simply unplayable for stretches of 2025/26 as he propelled Bayern to a Bundesliga and DFB Cup double with a mammoth 15 goals and 19 assists.

Olise's best strikes for Bayern

They included some truly magical moments, such as strikes after cutting inside from the right against Mainz and Wolfsburg that saw him scoop both April and May Bundesliga Goal of the Month honours.

Olise then took his creative mastery to the biggest stage in football over the summer, finishing the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the tournament's biggest provider of assists - and breaking the record of Brazilian legend Pelé by setting up seven goals in a single tournament for France.

That would have come as no surprise to his delighted Bayern boss, Vincent Kompany, who said in April: "Michael Olise is already one of the best players in the world. If he continues like this, you can see what he’s capable of, considering how far he’s already come."

It would be unfair to speculate how Bayern's talisman could possibly improve after inspiring the club to the double and picking up the Bundesliga Player of the Season honour last time around.

'Humble, nonchalant' Olise destined for Ballon d'Or?

Three things can be predicted with a degree of confidence though: plenty more specatular goals, special passes and a hunger for more titles.

Olise and Bayern have the chance to claim their first silverware of the season in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Dortmund on Saturday.

They will look to get even closer to UEFA Champions League glory in the coming campaign, with Olise recently confessing to wanting to "grow from" Bayern's narrow defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in a thrilling semi-final, while repeating their Bundesliga and DFB Cup heroics.
