Harry Kane’s hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s win over Hoffenheim on Matchday 4 not only meant that his side maintained their perfect start to the season, but also that the England forward's penalty record remains unblemished in the Bundesliga.

Kane’s two spot-kicks set Vincent Kompany’s men on their way to a comfortable 4-1 win, and took the striker to 17 goals scored from the spot for Bayern in the Bundesliga.

"It was a good game for us," said Kane afterwards. "The first half was difficult, we seemed a little tired, but we made it 1-0 just before half-time – an important goal.

"You can't play every game perfectly; there will always be phases when the opponent gets chances. You have to defend well and that's what we did. In the second half, it was more our game."

Kane's 17 converted penalties puts him in a league of his own (if he wasn’t already), with no other player in Bundesliga history having taken that many spot-kicks without missing.

He had equalled previous holder Hans-Joachim Abel’s record of 16 when he converted from 12 yards in the 48th minute, before jumping ahead with his 77th minute strike.

Furthermore, Abel collected his 16 penalties over nine seasons with the likes Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bochum and Schalke, while Kane reached his tally four games into his third season in Germany’s top tier.

Kane’s record-breaking journey began at home to rivals Augsburg when he slotted past Finn Dahmen on Matchday 2 of the 2023/24 season. He went on to notch four more penalties that season, before hitting nine in 2024/25.

With the record in sight, Kane wasted no time in chasing Abel’s achievement. He stepped up to slot number 15 home in Bayern’s Matchday 3 demolition of newly-promoted Hamburg, before sealing the deal with his Hoffenheim double.
