Harry Kane eyes Bayern Munich treble: 'It’s definitely a possibility'
After Bayern Munich secured their passage to the DFB Cup semi-finals for the first time in six years with a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, Harry Kane has shed light on what he considers is possible for his side to achieve come the season’s end.
In what was a tightly contested quarter-final encounter with Leipzig, it was Kane who opened the scoring for Bayern, converting a spot-kick just after the hour mark, after Maarten Vandevoordt had brought down Josip Stanišić.
A little while later, Luis Díaz consolidated the Munich side's advantage, allowing the record 20-time cup winners to clear the quarter-final hurdle for the first time since 2019/20.
With the Bavarians still in European contention, having qualified directly for the UEFA Champions League round of 16, talks of a possible treble have been gathering momentum.
Speaking after the Leipzig victory, Kane directly confronted the notion that his side could be in for a three-strong trophy haul by the end of the campaign, the England captain admitting: “It’s definitely a possibility, but there’s still a long way to go - we’re not going to get carried away because of this win today."

“But, we’re in the right moment; we’re in the right situations; we’re still in all competitions. So, with the way we play and with the way we feel together, of course it’s a possibility."
Bayern's talisman then added: "To win a treble, you need a bit of luck and for things to go your way. You need to keep performing and stay injury free. All of these things have an impact. So, we just need to focus on what we’re doing now. We’re in a good moment.”
Much like Kane, head coach Vincent Kompany did not shy away from the speculation surrounding his side and a potential treble - which would be the Bavarians' first since the legendary 2019/20 campaign under Hansi Flick.
The Belgian explained: "I’m not going to take that kind of dream away from anyone."
However, the Bayern boss quickly added: "I think it’s normal to enter every competition with the feeling that we can be there until the end and maybe even win it. Everyone is allowed to have that dream, but from my side, I’m more pragmatic. This game is now over. That’s great. That’s football - sometimes you lose, sometimes you win."
Bayern will face any of Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen or holders VfB Stuttgart in the penultimate round. The remaining teams will find out who they play in the semi-finals on Sunday 22 February.
The Munich club could also potentially face Borussia Dortmund, Leverkusen, Atalanta or Olympiacos in the Champions League round of 16 in early March.
Whilst there is plenty to be decided between now and the end of the season, Kompany's men will now turn their attention back towards the Bundesliga. Next up is a trip north to face Werder Bremen on Matchday 22, as the league leaders look to maintain a six-point lead over Dortmund in the title race.
