Germany's FIFA World Cup 2026: overview

Germany are out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay in the Round of 32.

Germany started their World Cup journey with a resounding 7-1 win over Curaçao in their tournament opener in Houston on 14 June, and followed it up with a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Côte d'Ivoire on Matchday 2.

However, momentum was brought to a shuddering halt on Matchday 3 as they let a 1-0 lead slip in a 2-1 defeat against Ecuador in their final Group E game.

They were the favourites against Paraguay but, after the game ended 1-1 after extra-time, the four-time world champions went out on penalties.
