Harry Kane's Bundesliga penalty streak ends with Wolfsburg miss

Harry Kane missed a Bundesliga penalty for the first time in Bayern Munich's 1-0 win at Wolfsburg on Matchday 33 of the 2025/26 season - but only after Wolfsburg's Jeanuël Belocian confessed to interfering with the penalty spot.

Kane had converted all 24 of his previous Bundesliga spot-kicks since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2023, including 10 this season.

However, the England striker proved he is human after all as his standing foot gave way when he stepped up to take a first-half penalty at the Volkswagen Arena. Wolfsburg keeper Kamil Grabara went the wrong way, but the ball sailed high and wide of the goal.

Kane's penalty miss

A reason for Kane's rare miss emerged though as footage showed Wolfsburg defender Jeanuël Belocian trampling on the penalty spot to rough it up while a VAR check was ongoing to confirm the spot kick.

When asked after the match if that was a deliberate ploy, the France U21 international said "Yes, that was easy.”

Team-mate Patrick Wimmer came to his defence, saying: "Of course, there are some dirty tricks that you have to use when you're down at the bottom."

Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig took the incident in good spirits - no doubt aided by the fact a number of good saves and a super Michael Olise goal secured three points for Bayern regardless - saying: "For Wolfsburg, everything is at stake. That's why I'm not at all upset that someone interfered with the penalty. Ultimately, it's about their very existence."

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany agreed, adding: "Of course, we don't want that, but I also have some understanding for it. Everything is at stake for Wolfsburg."

Despite the rare blip, Kane is set to claim his third successive Bundesliga Torjägerkanone.

The 32-year-old went into the penultimate weekend of the campaign on 33 goals, putting him 14 clear of VfB Stuttgart's Deniz Undav in the scoring charts.

He is also on track to become the first player to win the prize in his first three seasons of Bundesliga football.

All told, Kane has 55 goals in 49 competitive games so far in 2025/26, ahead of season-ending fixtures against Cologne in the Bundesliga and Stuttgart in the DFB Cup final.
