Deniz Undav's goalscoring form continued against RB Leipzig on Matchday 26, as the VfB Stuttgart striker netted the only goal of the game in a tight and cagey contest. With less than 100 days to go until the FIFA World Cup, the German international is hitting form at just the right time.

In a game where there was almost nothing to separate Stuttgart and Leipzig, the quick thinking of one forward made all the difference.

Since the turn of the year, Deniz Undav has been in sensational form. His second-half winner against Leipzig on Matchday 26 - a trademark instinctive finish  - was his fifth goal in his last five Bundesliga games.

With less than 100 days to go until the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway, the German international is doing all he can to try and earn a spot in Julian Nagelsmann's squad.

Recently, the Germany boss described the number nine position as “an issue we need to resolve," before naming Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Tim Kleindienst and AC Milan loanee Niklas Füllkrug as potential candidates for the role.

Undav has made clear of his belief both on the pitch and also when commenting after the previous weekend's 2-2 draw in Mainz:  “I have the best scoring record, so I don’t understand why people talk about other strikers and not me, [or] why my name always crops up as a false nine. I’m just a good, traditional striker who is also a good number ten."

“My numbers are good,” added the Stuttgart No.26, who has scored three goals in his six senior Germany outings to date. “I keep delivering week after week and am trying to prove myself that way.

“As long as I keep scoring, it will be difficult to look beyond me.” With another fine goal the following week against Leipzig, Undav is doing all he can to deliver on that promise.
