Alphonso Davies has been tipped to become "one of the best players of his generation" by Bayern Munich's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

The versatile Canadian has established his place on the left-hand side of the Bayern defence this season, and Salihamidzic has waxed lyrical about the qualities of a 19-year-old who has already become a firm fans' favourite in Munich.

"We signed Alphonso Davies a year ago because we saw him as one of the best players of his generation," Salihamidizic told Munich's Abendzeitung. "We're delighted that this is now being confirmed with every game he plays.

"Our fans love him too. They've been waiting for such a young player who plays so naturally with pace, technique and a strong physical presence."

Although he broke through as a winger, Davies has been increasingly used as a full-back for club and country, for whom he has already scored five goals in 17 appearances.

He has adapted to his new defensive position so impressively, he took all the plaudits for keeping Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi out of danger in the recent Klassiker.

This versatility will serve the teenager well, and Salihamidzic believes Bayern can bring the very best out of him.

"Alphonso can become a really important player at Bayern," he said. "We've now got to support and push him, but also protect him. What I'm happiest about when it comes to Alphonso is that he's the living proof that young players get opportunities at Bayern Munich when they work hard and have the quality."

Davies, who joined Bayern from the Vancouver Whitecaps last January, signing a deal through to 2023, has featured in eight Bundesliga fixtures this season, scoring one goal, and he has also made his UEFA Champions League debut for the Bavarians.
