Full-time: St. Pauli 0-4 Gladbach

Gladbach have finally stopped the rot and in impressive style. After failing to win a Bundesliga game since March, the visitors have blown Pauli away 4-0 in a dominant display. Tabaković grabbed a first-half double before Machino and Fraulo completed the rout in the second half.

Machino adds a third!

That should be that! And again, it is a counter-attack. Reitz chips a long ball over the top for Tabaković, who feeds Machino in the centre. The Japanese international meets the pass first time and buries the goal for 3-0. Surely that is Gladbach's first league win of the season guaranteed now.

Another dangerous counter

Reitz again wins a loose ball and sends Neuhaus away down the left. Neuhaus looks up and sees Engelhardt at the far post and finds him with a great pass. Engelhardt slides in and shoots, but Vasilj makes another good save, and the ball goes out for a corner.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Despite having good spells of possession, the hosts just aren't creating chances. Gladbach, meanwhile, look like they could add a third at any moment.

Bottom of the table Gladbach are on course for their first win of the season, thanks to a Tabaković double. Pauli have had their moments going forward, but in doing so, they have left a lot of space in behind that the visitors have exploited superbly.

Players on the pitch

We're just a couple of minutes from kick-off now as the rain pours down in north Germany.

It's tight at the bottom

A win won't take Gladbach out of the bottom three, but it could lift them into the relegation play-off spot and to within a point of outright safety. Victory for Pauli, on the other hand, could nudge them into the relative comforts of mid-table.

No need to panic yet

Over now 63 seasons of Bundesliga football, Gladbach are the 41st team to be winless after Matchday 8. The longest wait for a first win of the campaign was set by Nuremberg in 2013/14, who finally picked up a victory on Matchday 18. The Foals’ haul of three points from eight games is also by no means the lowest in history, with several teams having posted a solitary point down the years. The record for fewest wins over an entire Bundesliga season, meanwhile, stands at two by Tasmania Berlin in 1965/66 and Wuppertal in 1974/75.

Eugen Polanski on facing St. Pauli

"There's no such thing as an easy opponent. We want to learn from our mistakes [against Union Berlin] and stay in the game for the first 15 minutes. We then want to swing the pendulum in our favour, like we did in the cup [against Karlsruhe]. That’s our aim against St. Pauli."
camera-photo

Alexander Blessin on facing Gladbach

"The atmosphere was good [after our cup win over Hoffenheim], which was important after such a tough period. We need to build on that. We need to find the right balance in terms of enthusiasm and intensity. That's what we want to produce on Saturday."
camera-photo

Gladbach's worst ever start

Gladbach have failed to win in their first eight Bundesliga games for the first time ever, and the three points they have so far this season represent their worst-ever start to a campaign. Eugen Polanski is also the first Gladbach coach since the club's first promotion to the Bundesliga in 1965 not to win any of his first five competitive matches with the Foals.

A winter team?

Gladbach failed to win a single Bundesliga game during the summer daylight saving period and are currently on a club-record 15-game run without winning. Perhaps the winter months will provide a change in fortune for the Foals.

Pauli's goalscoring troubles

The hosts have failed to score in their last three Bundesliga games, last scoring in the 32nd minute in the 2-1 home loss against Leverkusen. That is a total of 328 minutes without a goal.

Pauli's strong record against Gladbach

St. Pauli have taken points from 12 Bundesliga games against Gladbach (four wins and eight draws), more than against any other club in the Bundesliga. The hosts also have their joint-best Bundesliga goalscoring record against the Foals, scoring 23 times.
