Hamburg vs Leverkusen postponed due to stadium safety concerns

Due to weather-related structural risks with the Volksparkstadion roof, the scheduled game between Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen this evening has been postponed. A rescheduled time and date is set to be confirmed soon.

Staying put

Despite picking up just one point from their last three games, Hamburg sit in the same position in the table as they did after picking up their last win, which came in the Nordderby against Werder Bremen on Matchday 13.

Shared memories

Some great players have represented these two clubs over the years. Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Son Heung-Min played together for Leverkusen after impressing for HSV, while Jonathan Tah, Ze Roberto and Hans Jörg-Butt are the other big names to have represented both of these Bundesliga giants.

Bouncing back

With both teams coming into this fixture on the back of losses, we can expect a fierce battle this evening in northern Germany. The hosts have been strong at home this season, winning four and drawing two of their eight games at the Volksparkstadion. Leverkusen haven't been bad on the road either, however, losing just two of seven away games until now.

Merlin Polzin on facing Leverkusen

"They're a top team with plenty of quality up front. They have the league's best attack behind Bayern. It's another great game for us - our reward for all our hard work last season. These are the games that we were looking forward to."

Kasper Hjulmand on facing Hamburg

"We obviously need to play a lot better tomorrow. We've analysed everything [from the Stuttgart game] and are focusing on Hamburg. It's obviously a big opportunity to bounce back strongly and emphatically. We're very focused and definitely need to play much better."

Head above water

Despite their recent loss to Freiburg, Hamburg remain in 13th with four points separating them from St. Pauli in the relegation play-off place. However, they've shown against Stuttgart, Dortmund and Frankfurt that they're more than capable of taking points from the big guns.
