Full-time: Wolfsburg 2-1 Union

Die Wölfe pick up their third win in four Bundesliga matches this term with a narrow 2-1 victory. Jonas Wind gave his side the lead and, although Robin Gosens' header levelled things up, Joakim Maehle's lovely volley restored his side's lead within two minutes of the equaliser. Die Eisernen had opportunities after the interval, but they were unable to level things up, and will now look to bounce back against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Union pushing

Urs Fischer's men are looking to get back on level terms but, despite enjoying the majority of possession in this second period, they have done little to trouble Casteels.

The hosts lead at the interval thanks to some Danish delight! Jonas Wind and Joakim Maehle found the back of the net for Die Wölfe either side of Robin Gosens' header - still all to play for after the break.

Wolfsburg back in front!

The scores were level for barely two minutes as Niko Kovac's team restore their advantage! It's a fantastic strike, too, as Joakim Maehle volleys a half-cleared corner beyond Frederik Ronnow outside the area.

Gosens levels things up

Union get their equaliser! Die Eisernen are so dangerous in the air, and it is once again a header that gets them on the scoresheet as Robin Gosens heads Aissa Laidouni's cross into the bottom corner. The summer signing already has three goals for his new club!

Wind hits the mark!

Despite Union having the better of the early exchanges, the hosts take the lead. Die Wölfe pounce on a loose Kevin Behrens touch and, after being played through by Lovro Majer, Wind sweeps a well-placed effort into the bottom corner. That's five Bundesliga goals already this campaign for the Dane!

Super strikers

Jonas Wind and Kevin Behrens are locked together on four goals apiece in the scoring charts this term. Union's in-form forward has the division's highest finishing rate (+2.6) while Wind features in the top ten (+1.2) within the category.

Head-to-head

Considering Die Eisernen have only been in the top flight since 2019, these two teams have met just nine times previously - on eight occasions in the Bundesliga, and once in the DFB Cup. There is nothing to separate the sides in terms of the overall record, with each having three wins apiece. That the away side has never won when these two have faced off will be music to Kovac's ears.

Wolfsburg on the hunt

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are not competing in European competition this term after missing out on the final day of last term and can therefore concentrate solely on the Bundesliga. Niko Kovac's men kicked off the campaign with wins against Heidenheim and Cologne and, although they succumbed to Hoffenheim last time out after taking the lead, they can still be happy with their start.

Solid start for Union

Union Berlin's rise and rise means expectations continue to increase. As such, the 3-0 defeat against a strong RB Leipzig side before the international break will have come as a disappointment, especially given it was their first league defeat at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei since 2021. However, they started the Bundesliga campaign with back-to-back 4-1 wins and, with a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu to play Real Madrid to come on Wednesday, there is plenty to look forward to.
