Union excel in Darmstadt

Urs Fischer's team looked every bit Champions League challengers as they brushed aside the first-half setback of seeing USMNT man Brenden Aaronson sent off after only 22 minutes. Prior to that, Robin Gosens had been enjoying a blazing first full appearance for the Irons with a peach of an opening goal. Marvin Mehlem's subsequent equaliser would only spur Union on, however, the visitors netting through Gosens' second of the game, Kevin Behrens' fourth goal in two games and a further strike from Danilho Doekhi.

Union stretch lead

Are the Berliners really playing with ten men? The visitors have just scored a third goal since Brenden Arronson's first-half dismissal, with Danilo Doekhi the latest Union player to hit the target from a header. This game is done.

Union lead at the break

Phew! What a half of Bundesliga football that was! Union's summer signing Robin Gosens scored a brace either side of Brenden Arronson's dismissal and Marvin Mehlem's equaliser for the hosts. The Irons then edged further ahead through one more Kevin Behrens header.

The Gosens effect

What a game Robin Gosens is having here. The former Inter Milan man scored with his first two efforts on goal and he is helping Union to produce attacking stats that are unprecedented for the club, like 13 forays into the opposing third in the opening half, for example.

Behrens headed goal

He netted a hat-trick of headers in last weekend's win against Mainz and Kevin Behrens has just put Union 3-1 up with another headed goal!

Gosens good to go

Robin Gosens comes in to make his Bundesliga debut for Union while Josip Juranovic is also in from the off for last weekend's victorious visitors. Darmstadt team news

German media are tipping Torsten Lieberknecht to shuffle his pack for the visit of Union. Scottish forward Fraser Hornby led the line against Frankfurt, but may make way for Luca Pfeiffer, who returns to the club from Stuttgart. Defensive specialist Matthias Bader and midfielder Fabian Schnellhardt are also in line for their first starts of the season.

Union team news

Leeds United loanee and US international Brenden Aaronson made his Bundesliga debut on Matchday 1, with the likes of Sheraldo Becker, Jordan and fellow new signings Kevin Volland and Robin Gosens starting the contest among the substitutes. Josip Juranovic had been expected to start at right-back, but club veteran and captain Christopher Trimmel instead got the nod. Given the final 4-1 scoreline, Urs Fischer is likely to save heavy rotation for the start of Union's debut UEFA Champions League campaign.
