FORTUNA RULE THE RHINE
Three vital points and local bragging rights go to Fortuna Düsseldorf after a hard-fought 2-0 win over Cologne. The away side were the better team for large periods of the game and has plenty of chances to force saves from Zack Steffen, but Fortuna were clinical with Rouwen Hennings and Erik Thommy among the goals to go three points ahead of Cologne, who now sit second bottom.
The home fans are already celebrating here in Düsseldorf with what looks to be three points wrapped up now in this derby fixture.
HENNINGS WITHIN INCHES!
Thommy beats Hector to a ball played down the right flank and crosses low to the near post. Hennings times his run to perfection and opens up his left foot to push it at goal, but it drifts just wide of goal have going across beyond Horn's reach.
INTO THE FINAL 10...
Despite Modeste, Terodde and Cordoba being on the pitch, things are comfortable for the Fortuna defence here and they remain a threat going forward at speed.
SCHAUB HAS A GO
The winger moves inside from the right wing on his favoured left foot before shooting from the edge of the Fortuna box, but his shot curls just wide of the mark as Cologne go close to finding their goal again.
FORTUNA FIGHTING FOR EVERYTHING
The home side really are battling for every single ball here and look a true danger on the counter-attack with Hennings staying right on the last Cologne defender at all times. We could definitely see more goals before the end of this game.
COLOGNE STILL ON TOP
The Billy Goats will be looking for a goal sooner rather than later to get this game alive again with time ticking on. They have been the better side in this second half but the Fortuna counter-attack has worked against them once already, so they will have to remain wary of it happening again.
A GOAL FROM NOTHING!
A goal from a Cologne corner as the home side clear with a huge boot from Ayhan for Thommy to chase onto. He battles with Schindler and cuts past him in the box, before slotting the ball superbly into the top corner past Horn with a fantastic finish.
STEFFEN SAVES FROM TERODDE
Schindler sends Terodde away on goal with Adams clawing back to put him off. Terodde is able to get a shot away, but Steffen stays big and saves.
SCHAUB SO CLOSE!
What a chance for Louis Schaub as he meets a cross to the back post with a leaping header, but it glides just past Steffen's post. The away side creating far the better chances.
COLOGNE STARTING WELL
All the play has been with the away side in this second half, but only half chances have been produced. Fortuna have been able to force Cologne into chances they aren't totally happy to take, frustrating the so far in this game.
TERODDE HEADS WIDE
Cologne work the ball well around the Fortuna box and it ends up with Drexler at the left side. He clips the ball to the back post where Terodde is waiting, but his header is deflected behind for a corner.
SECOND HALF BEGINS
We're back underway for the second half in Düsseldorf without a change for either side.
HENNINGS HAS FORTUNA AHEAD
The Fortuna top scorer has done the business so far with his one chance from the spot and the home side are ahead. Cologne have enjoyed most of the possession but have been unable to do much with it so far, Terodde coming closest with a header wide of the mark. Expect changes to come for them in attack in the second half.
REAL BATTLE HERE
The home fans are loving things at the moment with their side flying into make big tackles as Cologne control possession, but struggle to break through the Fortuna defence to do anything with it.
HENNINGS SLOTS IT HOME
Stepping up on his left foot, Hennings makes no mistakes to score his second spot-kick of the season. Horn goes the right way but there's too much power behind the shot and Fortuna are ahead in the first half.
Alfredo Morales is brought down by Czichos and Fortuna have the chance to go ahead.
A few decisions have gone against the away side here which the players aren't happy about. They will have to keep their composure here after collecting two yellow cards in the space of a minute for two key players.
HENNINGS HITS THE POST
Thommy's free-kick is flicked up in the air towards the back post where Ayhan is positioned. He heads it back down into the centre of the box where Hennings meets it and heads at goal himself, only to find the outside of the Cologne post. Within inches of a goal there!
HOME SIDE SHOWING CONFIDENCE
Cheeky flicks from Fink and Thommy have Fortuna flowing well in attack, until the reach the Cologne box, at least. Neither side has been able to mount a serious attack around the opposition box to this point.
DREXLER WORKING HIS WAY
Lovely interplay between Drexler and Skhiri into the Fortuna box down the right ends with a dinked cross into the box towards Terodde. The Fortuna defence is able to block it before reaching the Cologne striker, though, and clear this time.
THOMMY SEES HORN OFF HIS LINE
The winger goes for goal from all of 40 yards out on the left wing as he looks up and spots Timo Horn off his line, but the Cologne No.1 is able to recover.
TERODDE WITH A HEADER!
Simple but effective there from Cologne as Hector is afforded far too much space down the left flank. He looks up and crosses to the middle of the box where Terodde is waiting, but the Cologne No.9 can't keep his header on target this time.
ALL SQUARE TO START
Both sides getting on the ball well, getting into the game and looking to set their gameplans in motion, but it's been slow going in the early stages here. Just a rash shot wide from Jean Zimmer is our only chance on goal of note.
HÖGER COMING ON
Midfielder Marco Höger is getting ready to come on, which will see Jonas Hector move to his usual left-back spot.
Noah Katterbach is down injured here and looks unable to continue for the away side.
UNDERWAY IN DÜSSELDORF!
It's loud here at the Merkur Spielarena as we get things underway.
The Fortuna fans have revealed a huge choreography in the home stand ahead of this huge game for the club and the city. The atmosphere is building massively here!
Alfredo Morales will be a key man in the centre of the Fortuna midfield today, looking to help bring support to Rouwen Hennings in attack.
SCHAUB SUPPORTING TERODDE
Achim Beierlorzer is sticking to his plan of playing just one central striker, but it looks as if Louis Schaub will be his closest partner in crime playing almost as a second-striker this afternoon. Anthony Modeste and Jhon Cordoba are both ready and waiting on the bench should they need to be called upon.
AN EARLY RELEGATION SIX-POINTER
