Born in Pforzheim, Pauli head coach Marcel Rapp came through the ranks at Karlsruhe, making his second division debut for the Baden club in December 1999 under Joachim Löw. He played eight of his nine matches in Bundesliga 2 for Karlsruhe. As a manager, he has won five of seven encounters against Karlsruhe (losing two).
