Full time: Dortmund 2-3 Bayern

What a game! A breathless encounter comes to an end as Bayern grab all three points. Dortmund appeared to have clinched a draw thanks to Svensson's 84th-minute volley, but Kimmich replied with a volley of his own to seal a 3-2 win for Vincent Kompany's men that extends their lead at the top of the table to 11 points.

Bayern aren't sitting back and protecting their lead - they're going for the knockout blow. Díaz charges forward down the left, uses Kane's run as a dummy before drilling a low shot just wide of the post.

Into the record books

Kane is the first Bundesliga player to score 10 penalties in one season since Paul Breitner in 1980/81. The England forward has converted all 24 spot-kicks he has taken in Germany's top flight, while Kobel was only the third goalkeeper to even get a hand on one of the 32-year-old's penalties.

Turnaround!

Kane fires the ball low to Kobel's right. The Dortmund goalkeeper gets a hand to it but it's struck with too much power for him to keep out.

Watch: Schlotterbeck sensational in 2025/26

The Dortmund defender's goal should come as no surprise - he's been brilliant all season. Take a look at some of his best moments in 2025/26...

Half-time: Dortmund 1-0 Bayern

It's been a pulsating, end-to-end game so far. Bayern enjoyed the better start and dominated possession, albeit without creating any clear-cut openings. Dortmund gradually grew into the game and took the lead through Schlotterbeck's glancing header, giving the home side a narrow lead at the interval.

41'

First substitution - or not?

Can, under pressure from Laimer, takes a tumble while shielding the ball out for a goal kick. He appears to have hurt his knee. Dortmund get Bensebaini ready to come on his place, but the BVB captain signals that he wants to continue.

Centre-back or centre forward?

Schlotterbeck's header was his fourth Bundesliga goal of the season - and his third in his last six league outings.
35'

Next chance

Silva, in the Bayern box on the right, somehow squeezes the ball through to Beier. He's got his back to goal and the ball was slightly behind him, but he's on the edge of the six-yard box. He tries to get a shot away but he never really had the ball under control, and Bayern eventually crowd him out.
32'

Urbig to the rescue

Kobel fires a long ball forward and Beier wins his aerial duel to flick it on. Suddenly Couto is in space and bearing down on the Bayern penalty area, but Urbig is alive to the danger and hurries out of his box to hoof the ball clear.

Almost an Olise special

13'

Brilliant from Beier

Schlotterbeck pings a brilliant low ball forward and finds Beier, whose first touch is superb, controlling it and spinning past Laimer in one move. He darts into the box and almost gets a shooting chance, but Tah slides in to clear for a corner.

Tactics or mind games?

Kovač's decision to start Fabio Silva (pictured) ahead of Guirassy is a fascinating one. The Portuguese forward has only scored one Bundesliga goal all season, spread across 17 appearances and 478 minutes on the pitch. Guirassy, meanwhile, has five league goals in his last four outings, so Bayern and Kompany will certainly have been expecting him to start.

More on that Dortmund team

Niko Kovač has sprung a huge surprise by naming in-form forward Guirassy (pictured) on the bench, with Silva starting in his place. That's one of five changes following BVB's midweek Champions League defeat at Atalanta. Schlotterbeck also comes in for Bensebaini, Sabitzer replaces Bellingham in central midfield, Adeyemi starts ahead of Brandt further forward, and Couto takes Ryerson's place at right wing-back.

More on that Bayern team

The big news for Bayern is that, as expected, first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still sidelined with a calf injury, meaning Jonas Urbig starts once more. Otherwise, head coach Vincent Kompany has made three changes to his team following last week's win over Eintracht Frankfurt, as Tah, Laimer and Gnabry come in for Kim, Davies and Musiala.

Watch: EA FC predicts Der Klassiker

Who will win Der Klassiker? EA FC 26 has made a prediction as Bayern prepare to visit Dortmund.

Niko Kovač on facing Bayern

"We're all looking forward to the game, all the players and all the staff. We want to produce a different performance to the one we delivered in Bergamo. We'll need to cover a lot of ground - Bayern always have a lot of possession - so we're going to have to give ourselves a bit of respite by keeping the ball ourselves. We need to be brave. The longer it's an open game, the better chance we have of being victorious in front of our fans."

Reus meets Owo

Two men who know plenty about Der Klassiker are former Dortmund players Marco Reus (l.) and Patrick Owomoyela (r.), who on Friday met up in Los Angeles, where Reus currently plays. There's no doubt who they'll be supporting on Saturday...

Vincent Kompany on facing Dortmund

"It's the Klassiker. As it's a top-of-the-table clash at the moment, we can afford to big it up. It's important for the Bundesliga that it's a big occasion. [Dortmund's Champions League defeat] does have an impact mentally - it could go in either direction. What we can control is how we approach the game."

Can boost

There were some positives for Dortmund despite their Champions League exit in Italy as Emre Can returned from injury to start in defence. Defensive pillar Nico Schlotterbeck was also fit enough to make the bench, and while he was sent off in the aftermath of Atalanta's late penalty, he should be available to play some part in Saturday's match.

Davies back?

Alphonso Davies was jogging again on Thursday after suffering a thigh injury in last Saturday's 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Canadian's problem appears to be less severe than had been initially feared, although he still won't feature in Saturday's Klassiker.

Man in the middle

Sven Jablonski is to officiate this Saturday's Klassiker. The 35-year-old refereed a Klassiker previously, a 1-1 draw in Dortmund in November 2024, and has also taken charge of UEFA Champions League matches.

Dortmund dampener

Dortmund will look to pick themselves up on Saturday after narrowly exiting the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday with a dramatic 4-3 aggregate loss to Atalanta. Beating their Klassiker rivals could be the perfect tonic...

Watch: Tactical analysis of Michael Olise

How is the Bayern Munich winger so effective? We put the France international under the tactical microscope...

Striker battle

Once again, Harry Kane leads the way at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts with 28 goals. He has been so prolific, that he is currently matching Robert Lewandowski's pace during his record-breaking season of 41 strikes in 2021/22. While Serhou Guirassy has not found the back of the net as frequently, he is still his side's top scorer with 11 - enough to put him in the league's top five.

Bayern's ruthless attack

In the final third, though, Bayern have the clear advantage. Dortmund have scored the joint second-most goals in the Bundesliga in 2025/26 with 49, but that number still trails the Bavarians by a huge 36. Never before has a team in the German top flight managed as many as Bayern's 85 after 23 games, and they only trail the entire season record of 101 - set in 1971/72 - by 16. At this rate, it would be a surprise if they do not surpass that haul.

Meeting of sturdy defences

Only Bayern (21) have conceded fewer goals in the Bundesliga this term than Dortmund (22). However, the Black-Yellows have managed two more clean sheets (11 to nine).

Clash of strong runs

At home, Dortmund are the only team not to lose this term in the Bundesliga, winning nine and drawing two of their 11 such matches. At the same time, Bayern remain the sole outfit without an away defeat to their name, and have not been beaten in any off their past 20 league matches on the road. In fact, Vincent Kompany has lost just once in the top flight away from the Allianz Arena as Bayern head coach since joining in the summer of 2024.

Familiar faces

Niklas Süle, Emre Can and Marcel Sabitzer will all come up against their former club this weekend, while Raphaël Guerreiro will also play versus his ex-teammates. Meanwhile, Niko Kovač is in the opposite dugout to the one he previously occupied with Bayern, having led the latter to the league and cup double in 2018/19.

Dortmund's impressive campaign

Only twice before have BVB picked up more than their current 52 points after 23 games of a Bundesliga term. In 15 of the past 30 seasons, that would have been enough to put them top of the table. They have lost just one match this campaign - against Bayern - but the Bavarians' relentless consistency has seen them open up a considerable lead.

Bayern's upper hand

The Bavarians have lost just one of their past 15 games against Dortmund, winning 11 and drawing three. At Signal Iduna Park, they are unbeaten in seven, while Dortmund will be eager to end a seven-year wait for a victory at their home ground over the record champions.

Hope for Dortmund?

Bayern go into this encounter with a comfortable lead at the top of the table and are strong favourites for the Meisterschale. However, a BVB win would make things far more interesting. A five-point deficit with 10 or fewer games remaining has been overturned on several occasions in the past - in 2001/02, Dortmund were trailing Bayer Leverkusen by the same number with just three matches left and still finished top.
