Battle for WhatsApp bragging rights

Leverkusen's Robert Andrich and Leipzig's David Raum are in a WhatsApp group with fellow Germany international Joshua Kimmich. Andrich told the Leverkusen and Leipzig websites in a joint interview with Raum that Kimmich is the most likely to post after the game with Raum reckoning it will be "the one who wins" but adding the group mostly consists of the Bayern player correcting their German language skills.

Five players missing

While Leipzig have lost the in-form Yan Diomande (Ivory Coast) and Amadou Haidara (Mali) to the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on Sunday in Morocco, Leverkusen have been Germany's hardest-hit club with three key players competing at the tournament in Ibrahim Maza (Algeria), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso) and Eliesse Ben Seghir (Morocco). Christian Kofane (Cameroon) will also head off on AFCON duty after the game.

After fighting back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the BayArena early in the 2024/25 campaign, they overturned another 2-0 deficit on home soil, this time securing a 2-2 draw.
